ARS symtpoms & negative tests

How often do people with typical ARS symptoms at the correct time, turn out to be ultimately negative? Is it seen frequently?

Why do you think that all doctors and clinics say HIV cannot be diagnosed by symptoms? The only way to know your status is by testing. Read the archieves here or on the Expert Forum.

I just was worried when a Doc on another board said that he hardly ever saw someone with ARS type symptoms at the correct time turn out negative.

ARS is an after thought. Unless you have a confirmed positive test then all of your symptoms have/had nothing to do with HIV. ARS is not diagnosed before testing positive.

Sorry, Lizzie!

It's just that in the original answer it sounded as though you were referring to "generalised" / advanced HIV symptoms, not ARS.

My bad.

Ben.

lets see if i can make this clearer...if only, maybe two ppl, tested positive...then all the others ARE NOT experiencing TRUE ars symptoms, are they???

Maybe so, but unlike most, I like to know these things in order to try to talk myself out of worry, as opposed to further into it.

The question remains...

Thanks for the answer. Like most, I suffer from anxiety / OCD. There always seems to be (in my mind, obviously) a caveat as to why the tests were wrong!

"during that time...i have only seen maybe two ppl who tested out positive"

So would you say then that people on here often have the typical symptoms (genuine, and not in their head) at the correct time yet are ultimately negative?

Now that you mention it... it is looking a bit bigger than usual.

i have been on this forum for almost two years.  during that time...i have only seen maybe two ppl who tested out positive.

the mind is a powerful thing...especially to those who suffer from anxiety and ocd issues...which i have to say that MOST of the ppl posting here fall into this category.  an example of this is that ppl will post experiencing symptoms of HIV...not ARS.  they google "symptoms of hiv"...which throws out a multitude of symptoms that have nothing to do with ARS.  they start complaining of symptoms of ppl who are hiv +...which in most cases takes several years to even show any of these symptoms.  let me just say...if i posted on this forum that swelling of the third toe has been found to be a new symtom of hiv...within a few hours...ppl would be posting that their third toe is swollen.  again...the mind is a powerful thing ! ! !
