Really freaked out...

Well, here's my story. I had sex around august/early september with a guy. We didn't use protection, I told him to get tested beforehand, and well, he didn't, just said that he had nothing, and that he'd be really dissapointed in himself if he did. So stupid me I allowed it, oral and vaginal sex, he came in me only once, which freaked me out. And the fear of HIV didn't hit me until now, now I'm panicking pretty badly, and I'm terrified. Everyone keeps telling me I should be fine, but I still worry. Please help :'(

Your doctor was incorrect. 3 months post exposure and the test is conclusive. 6 months is outdated and has been since 2004.

Just an update, got my blood test restults back, and it was negative, but the doctor told me I could still have it 6 months to a year from now, so i need to be checked twice more, is this true, or is my test for real?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HIV

According to this the stats for a woman are higher than those for men in Vaginal Sex.
(They are listed as 10 per 10,000 exposures. But remember- these are just numbers, get tested)

A test result can take anywhere from minutes (theres an oraquick test) to week(s) (as in the case of a doctor taking a blood test)

Some GUM's have rapid testing where you can wait a few minutes for results, it depends where you go.

Im sure the more experienced could give you better answers im replying based upon research i have done in trying to figure out my risk.

Good Luck.

Also, apart from wanting to know the risk, how long does it take to get test results?

the only way to truly know your status is by testing.  a test done at 6-8 weeks post exposure will give you a good indication of your status...but 3 months is when your test will be conclusive.
