Risk of HIV exposure

Recently visited Domincan Republic.  Had an occurrance of unprotected sex with a dominican who had a pretty respectible job at the location I was visiting.  As irresponsible as it was, lesson learned and now dealing with the uncertainty of how my entire life could be changed.

After returning I have done research on the internet that states there is a high percentage of the population in the Dominican that is HIV positive.  I have no way of finding this person, finding out if they have been tested or even if I would get a truthful answer regarding the above questions.  Is there a way to determine a possible risk factor for an exposure of this type?  Some idea would be helpful instead of just sweating out the next 3 months so worried that I cannot eat or sleep wondering what the outcome is going to be.

many thanks for any help,
Jean in Canada

I understand this, but it is besides the point now. I am using this forum because I see other people with similar circumstances and similar questions that seem to get somewhat beneficial and insightful responses.  Other's have posts regarding risk factors and probabilities.... only curious if someone could apply those to my situation.

Thanks for your help!

Fact: Had you use a condom correctly and consistently you wouldn't be here.
Fact: The only way to know your status is by testing and the only conclusive test is 3 months post exposure.
