Getting HIV tested soon- incredibly nervous!

I had unprotected sex with an exboyfriend over two years ago. I am now in a relationship of a year and we have given ourselves to each other. I have never been tested for STDs or HIV, however I am going to be tested in about a week. My current boyfriend was going to be enlisted in the marines, and was given a blood test. His blood test showed nothing wrong with him. I am nervous about being tested but he reassures me that because his blood test came back negative, that means he does not have HIV, which means I should not have it either. Is this true? Should I rely on my partner's blood test results? I am so nervous.

Congratulations on your NEGATIVE HIV test . To answer your question, NO, you should never judge your HIV status by that of another. That said, if unfortunately sometime in the future, a sexual partner of your's does become HIV + , you would surely want to be tested.

-Military enlistees are routinely tested for HIV  upon entry and arrival at each DUTY STATION
