Street fight HIV risk.

Hello. I just got mugged on the way home from work. Someone, middle aged white male, came up behind me and started strangling me. We fell to the ground and he was chocking me from behind. I reached for anything, scrambling I picked up a sharp shard of stone and started slashing desperately at his arm, which was bare, I slashed him deeply on his arm and punctured his forearm fairly deeply, and in my struggle to break the hold I accidentally also cut my chin open on the same sharp rock. It is sorta deep but not really only a few mm's.  Bled a bit. A bit of flapping skin. My only concern is if there was blood on the rock or blood from his arm smeared in my wound am I at risk ? My face was bloody when I got home but from what I could tell it was only my blood. Please help.

My cut On my chin I could pull apart and there was a gash with flapping skin but it didn't need stitches or a hospital visit or even a bandaid and it's already scabbed and healing. Does this sound deep enough to infect if fresh blood was smeared in it?

A very deep wound that would require hospital attention.

Just curious how deep would a would hVe to be ? And why would surgeons get infected? I've read superficial scratches won't infect my cut was a fairly deep  cut on my chin like several layers of skin flapping.

Alright I'm just glad Im not at risk. So none from getting cut by the same rock fairly deeply btw didn't notice any blood on it after and no risk from the possibility of blood getting in my wound when trying to break free from the headlock ?

Are you a surgeon and work in a hospital or any other from of health-care worker? Those are the ones that MIGHT have a risk.

I've heard I think either nurse girl or Lizzie Lou say that it would have to be extreme amounts of fresh blood into an open wound that requires stitches or sutures

You aren't going to get infected in that manner period.

Even if blood was still infectious once exposed to air, how deep would a would have to be for infection to occur ?

Thanks rain. Im just a bit shooken up. So just before I logg off and forget about this, 100% no risk even if worst case scenario, ie HIV positive person, and for extra peace of mind would my cut even be sufficently deep for infection, it's not enough for stitches but it will likely scar and there are a few mm of flapping skin.

Thanks teak. Rock no visible blood on it, I figured. So no hypothetical risk at all?  And I don't think since I only deeply slashed his upper arm no fresh blood was smeared in said wound.

No you were not at risk.

HIV is unable to reproduce outside its living host (unlike many bacteria or fungi, which may do so under suitable conditions), except under laboratory conditions; therefore, it does not spread or maintain infectiousness outside its host.

HIV is transmitted by;
Unprotected penetrative anal and/or vaginal sex
Sharing works with other IV drug abusers
Mother to child
