How at risk am I?

Hello,

On June 10, I was at a bachelor party for a good friend in Las Vegas. The best man had two women come to our room and put on a performance. After they were done messing around with the bachelor, they had him pick people for them to do things to. He picked me for a particular trick because I didn't have a bachelor party 10 years ago.

The woman had me lay down and put a ring-pop (lollipop) between my teeth. She then sat on it and inserted it in and out of her vagina for 15 seconds or so before then pulling it out of my mouth with her vagina. I thought that was the end of it, but then she turned around and shoved the thing in my mouth. I am a rather germaphobic person to begin with and resisted being involved in the stunt because I didn't feel comfortable. But I relented because I was trying to be a good sport. The lollipop was in my mouth for around 3-5 seconds.

I remembered that on my flight out to Vegas I thought I felt a mouth ulcer coming on (I am very prone to those). But when I checked, there was none there. However, the party was the same night I felt I was getting a mouth ulcer, and I checked a day or so later. So it is possible that I had a mouth ulcer when she did that.

Since then I've been in terrible shape. I haven't been able to sleep, I have multiple panic attacks daily, and my left tonsil has been enflamed for nearly a month. A few weeks ago, I went to my doctor who said it was highly unlikely that I could have contracted HIV this way and that the tonsil was most likely a bug I've picked up do to my stress levels and lack of sleep lowering my constitution.

I went to an ENT a week ago who said my lymph nodes weren't swollen, and my tonsil was only slightly irritated. He agreed with my doctor about the likelyhood of contracting HIV this way and also placed the problem on my stress and lack of sleep. He perscribed me a mild dose of Xanax to help me sleep. The day before, and the day of that doctor's appointment, I felt especially bad. I woke up at one point and my head was soaked with sweat. So I was of course afraid it was a night seat. All that day, I felt like my body was shaking. I couldn't catch my breath. I was getting headaches in the back of my head. Also, I kept feeling minor pains (more like pressure) in various joints and muscles, including a random finger and toe. They only lasted for a few moments at a time, and they kept moving around my body. They weren't real painful, but I could feel it. This lasted until yesterday (about six days). But after starting to take the Xanax, and consequently sleeping better, those symptoms lessened more each day until today I don't really feel any of them except sometimes in my neck (my tonsil is still irritated) and behind my ears.

I've slipped into a depression. I am convinced that I now have HIV and will lose my family and everything else because of this stupid incident. I was tested on July 7 and it was negative. However, that was only 27 days out. Also, I went to the free clinic on July 2 to get a full battery of tests (21 days out). Everything came back negative, and the nurse there also said my chances of getting HIV that way "are about nil." The HIV counselor at the clinic said I should consider my negative HIV test a clean bill of health because of how unlikely it is for me to have contracted the virus that way. He also said that some RNA test they do came back with no signs of virus (21 days out) and that although it was not an FDA-approved test, that it is a sign that I'm clean.

Despite all of these professionals telling me that there is little chance of contracting the virus, I can't accept it. It seems like if she was HIV positive and had vaginal secretions on that lollipop, and I had an ulcer in my mouth, that I'd contract the disease. Could it really just be a coincidence that I'm having these issues 4-6 weeks after my possible exposure? It just seems too far fetched.

My wife was just diagnosed with Lupus, and I really should be there for her more than I am able to because of my concern over this. Please advise. I don't know how I'm going to make it to 90 days to know for sure.

Thank you in advance for any advice and insight you can provide.

Roger

Hi Vance,

I appreciate your reassurance. Do you think it matters at all that I did a shot of tequila shortly before this event? I read that alcohol lowers the level of enzymes in the saliva that you mentioned.

The ironic thing is that I've never done a shot before in my life and I'm nearly 34 years old (tequila is terrible by the way). If only I could hit the reset button on that whole evening.

Thanks again for taking the time to talk with me.

I know you do not have a risk.
No risk because HIV is not transmitted through enviromental means and the virus is inactive when exposed to air and saliva has proteins and enzymes which inactivates the virus.
Anyone of of those leads to no risk, so 3 is no risk.

Hi Vance. Thanks for your response. So you really don't think I have cause for concern, even though her vaginal secretions were on the lollipop and there is a good chance I had an ulcer in my mouth? I think I'd feel more confident if someone could explain why that doesn't put me at risk.

Thanks.

I think it's time to see a therpaist for your issues. You have had multiple people tell you highly unlikely and I will tell you that you did not have a risk. Either move on or seek professional mental help.
