Testing

I have had unprotected vaginal sex many times with a few different people the last time I tested I believe was June 26th the 20min quick blood test from planned parenthood and that was negative. The last time I had unprotected vaginal sex was June 7th but since then I have had unprotected oral sex both giving and recieving, the last time being about 3 weeks ago and that was the last time I have had any sexual activity. Is oral sex really "no risk" at all? when should I have my next test done? and is this testing period ever going to end? I will not ever have unprotected vaginal intercourse again. Should I get tested after my unprotected oral sexual encounters too?

* Anyone who continues to post excessively, questioning a conclusive negative result or no-risk situation, will be subject to action by MedHelp. Conclusive negative results or a no-risk situation will be based up the criteria MedHelp’s doctors. Action will be taken as follows:
    * After excessive posting, a warning will be issued by MedHelp
    * Continuing to post regarding the negative result / no risk situation will result in a 3 day suspension
    * Continuing to post upon your return will result in a permanent ban.

I am sorry I just have one more question....are swollen lymph nodes supposed to hurt?

Your symptoms are not due to HIV and most likely are anxiety-related.

Now MOVE ON.

I am very scared and have a swollen lymph node in my neck on the right side. I have also had a lotttttttt of diarheaa recently (weeks of it) sometimes consitpation too depends on what but usually its diarheaa I am very worried about this my stomach has also been hurting and it seems that i have been getting yeast infections a lot recently. Do you think this is HIV? I also feel light headed sometimes. I really need some advice. I plan to get tested August 26th like I said I just can't keep from worrying and I have these symptoms. I also have red dots that look like pimples and bumps in the back of my tounge that look the same color as my tounge. I know August 26th isnt 3 months but it will be about 10 weeks.   please help me again.

I already told you that rapid tests are ELISA tests. False negatives can only happen if you test less then 3 months after exposure. The earlier you test before 3 months the more likely it is you will have a false negative.

You were already advised on when to test. It is up to you on whether you want to follow that advice. This forum really has nothing more to offer you. I suggest that you take further questions to your counselor at Planned Parenthood.

what about a false negative? I am schedualed to test on august 26th at planned parenthood. I know this is not 3 months but it will be almost 3 months. I want to test before I go away on vacation, which is the next day. I am still under my parents health insurace and don't know if I want to do another HIV test at my physicians office. Is the rapid test an ELISHA test too? how is the rapid test (only 20 mins) accurate when sometimes for vein blood drawn test take a day to weeks to gets back? I am sorry i have so many questions I am just trying to understand this.

Rapid ELISA tests generally have a higher rate of false positives than traditional blood drawn ELISA tests. Other than that they are equally accurate (a negative result at 12 weeks can be relied upon for either test).

For that reason I usually recommend that people at low risk just get a traditional blood test. You can get a false positive on either test, but on blood-drawn tests you should not actually see it before it is ruled a false positive (they would repeat the ELISA and then perform the Western Blot using the remaining sample before releasing the results). At least, that is how it works at my local health department where I tested.

joggen and teak what do you think of the rapid tests that are offered by planned parenthood? are there a lot of false positives? false negatives? is this a good test for me to use? The 1st test I did was from my doctor (blood drawn) the last 2 were from planned parenthood. Are the tests from planned parenthood reliable? What would you suggest?are the rapid tests that they take in PlannedParenthood as effective as getting a whole vile (I am not sure how to spell that) done as effective? Meaning is the 20min rapid test as effective as drawing a lot of blood from the arm? and if so why do those tests (the ones drawn from the arm take so long?) Which is a better test and most effective?

Thank you for answering my questions.

QUESTION ONE----- So as you have said any UNPROTECTED ORAL SEX is "no risk"? do I understand that right?

QUESTION TWO----
and one more question are the rapid tests that they take in PlannedParenthood as effective as getting a whole vile (I am not sure how to spell that) done as effective? Meaning is the 20min rapid test as effective as drawing a lot of blood from the arm? and if so why do those tests (the ones drawn from the arm take so long?) I am very nervous and upset...should I wait 3 months after giving oral to someone to test? And can you please tell me why Planned Parenthood and LIACC say oral sex is a risk? the way they talk is like it is the same amount of a risk as giving/recieving oral. I just want to get everything correct here because I am confused.

Just test 3 months after your last unprotected vaginal as Teak advised in your earlier thread.

Nobody needs to test after oral sex.
