Testing

Following intercourse (vaginal with man of unknown status) I have had persistent painful generalized lymph swelling - especially in collar bone. I just had a PCR DNA test and HIV test done at 5 months and it is negative, however the docs can't figure out why in the world this is happening and I'm in so much pain -

I want to let this go, I want to know what you others who are worried, in pain, and in my situation would do?

Infectious disease doc appt was this AM, doc looked over testing and said it looks like you've tried to rule out HIV. Most people have positive antibody tests by 3 months, 6 months is really only statistically thrown in there from history, however it's just statistics, there is nothing that would tell anyone why some show positive on a test 2 months after infection and some show positive 7 months after infection. He said just to be safe, he'd run another antibody test in February (which would be 7 months for me) if they hadn't come up with a reason for why I'm in so much pain in my collarbone and shoulders.

Congrats on your test results. I think you can easely rule out HIV. Just relax and investigate your health.

If you have had no other exposures in the past 5 months then the only thing to do is to keep going to your doctor.  As far as the testing goes if you had a PCR and antibody test done at 5 months you can pretty much rule out HIV. I am going through a scare myself and know the agony. You are not alone. Whatever the problem is it will get sorted out, but I wouldn't be worrying about HIV. You have had 2 reliable tests and the lymph swelling is most likely due to something else. I am not a doctor, but I have been testing myself, reading and talking to doctors so it sounds like your problem is something other than HIV.
