Stop using numbers and % .. it wont help now.
Go tested in 12 weeks, and then conclusive test within 3 months
Hi there,
I completly agree with macgyver16 concerning playing round with odds and statistics. They are un-reliable, inconsistant, non-specific and somewhat limited..
However i am also waiting for a 3 months conclusive test after my condom broke with a thai female unlicenced CSW. I am worried sick to the stomouch and also despite my bad feelings with regards to the statistics, i am also obsessed with them.
So for the purpose of your peace of mind for the next 3 months i will state that :-
1 in 100 (1%, which is the worst case scenario) chance of contracting the desease via a single exposure of anal sex with HIV
30% chance of the person being infected
In order to establish your potential risk you must multiply both the above figures.
1% x 30% which in decimals is
0.01 x 0.30 = 0.003 or 1 in 3000!!
I do hope this helps easy your worry a bit but again dont fully rely on it, and your not the only one out there right now worried sick to the stomouch as i also am finding it difficult to function.
Stay Strong
FIRST I DONT GO BY ODDS some people get it one time others not at all, there are many factors that cant be isolated in an exposure... but they have identified high risk exposures, but it is not a hundred percent... wait at 12 weeks.... for the meantime get help to deal with yer anxiety attcak by consulting a psychiatrist...
Why are there so many conflicting responses in regard to figures in transmission, i realise this forum isnt about figures, but the my Dr gave me estimations of 0.2 % and then thebody.com, the Dr there has figures at 6.6 exposures per 10,000 episodes, which is 1/200 also.
I dont know what to believe, i have also read that repeated exposure to the virus is mostly what causes it, and that its very unlucky to catch it from a one time encounter, but in conjunction with Herpes then i must be significantly more at risk, i am really confused on the statistics and dont really have anything significant to assure me that the risk my not end up being a negative result.
Have you more or less conceeded that the likely hood of transmission is very very probabal or is there still statistics in my favour that on a one off encounter i may not have contracted it??
get tested in 12 weeks for conclusive test!!!!, or you can have p24 antigen at ten days as baseline I cannot really determine your odds? anal sex is one of the activities that are really high risk... I would say that it is not 100 percent risk, but lets not play with odds here... just wait and hope at 12 weeks and get tested, the cost is really cheap... for the meantime to deal with anxiety consult a psychiatrist to manage your panic attack .... try to do relaxation and do deep breathing inhale and exhale 5 sec each and try to get some sleep go to a psychaiatrist to manage you anxiety...
Thank you for replying, i am so greatfull someone can listen
As the receptive he was in me for a minute, he had a smaller penis, i have not had intercourse up there for some time mabye a year, so i couldnt imagine any sores or anything, he was in there for a minute and withdrew and came out side of me, there may have been pre cum im unaware.
But i also penetrated him and didnt use protection for about 2 minutes, i wasnt as worried as i am now as i have read that if you have had any typeo of std in the past it increased your chance of getting HIV by so much!
macgyver16 do u think i have a chance i will be OK i have a fiance back home, and i am loosing my mind thinkin about my actions let alone concequences.
How much is the anti body test and how long does it take to get results?
Have you heard of worse than this and the negitive remaining negitive?!
If you could get her tested that would be a relief to you....if you can try to do so...
did you at one point did unprotected sex? insertive or receptive? if you do it is a high risk for a partner of unknown status, it is not 100 percent risk but still a risk, go get your self tested with antigen testing at ten days BUT IT IS NOT CONCLUSIVE an ANTIBODY TESTING AT 12 WEEKS IS CONCLUSIVE...
did you use condom? being the receptive? so we can assess the risk?
Macgyver16,
You think i still have a chance at being in the clear assuming this person is positive, i mean i realise this isnt a counciling site, but being over here in thailand bymyself worrying sick about what happened is causing me to nearly have a breakdown.
In regards to the fact that i had an std, it was an std that went away and has not been present for some 6 months, does this still increase my chances, and are you saying that you have read stats saying its a 1/200 chance, apologise for my posting i just need some kind of reassurance, i am even going to go back to this Go Go bar and ask her to have a HIV test and atleast if she is neg, it will mean that she is neg for last 3 months which would ease my mind somewhat,
Arhhhhhh i am in need of some counciling i wish i was back home or i had someone to talk to.
at ten days if not mistaken you can have core antigen testing but it is not conclusive have testing for antibodies at 12 weeks... hope this helps
unprotected anal sex is a high risk, having STD during time of intercourse raises the risk of transmission, lets look at the odds, what is the percentage your partner has one? and waht is the risk of transmission ? the fact is it is higher maybe 1/ 200 try to verify this... to have piece of mid have your self tested at 12 weeks and post your result...
Hi Vance,
This is what i am being told, i realise this, i was more looking for anyone to say if there is a chance that i will be OK?
Early tests are unreliable and not approved for diagnosis.
A standard 3 month antibody test will give you a conclusive result.
