Unprotected vaginal sex with prostitute.

I am a healthy 30 years old circumcised male. I had vaginal sex with a chinese prostitute last night in kuwait, however, i did not use a condom for the first 2 minutes or so of the intercourse. I then came to my senses and used one. What is the risk of me contracting aids in the short time i didnt use a condom?
Iam very worried about this incident as it was a one off thing, and i am married. Please advise in as much detail as possible.

Unprotected sex with a Chinese pro in the middle east by a western guy, what an international scenario in real sense, the world is really shrunk to a global village. Wow.

First, the facts on the ground.,,,, you are at risk, because you had an unprotected penetration regardless of time involved. Generally pors are smarter than their clients and they never allow any "bare" entry into their "private territory" . And if she did that with you, it certainly reflects her careless attitude and it is possible that she might be doing the same with other "incomers" as well. This mindset of the Chinese doll raise her risk rating a bit higher than a common pro.

Now some odds in your favor. Not everyone picks up HIV even after having sex just once with a positive partner. Very fortunate that transmission is not that easy as it is understood. Typical statistics suggest 1 in 2000, a fairly low probability, but for sure not zero. Chances of picking up the infection by a male partner are far lower than his female counterpart.

If you are still in Kuwait and you can get hold of the girl, better check her status and if it looks doubtful, still you have time for a PEP, but I doubt if that is available there. If you can not seek expert medical consultation and support in 72 hours of your exposure, then relax and wait for the next 6-8 weeks keeping your fingers crossed and having good hopes. Wishing you all the best,,, Very Good Luck.

Hi droplets_77, why dont you wait for a week and then try to have A PCR test, wherte are you living ?

PCR is generally not ordered for primary screening and diagnosis of HIV due to its higher "false positive" ratio, cost and other reasons. This test is recommended for deciding or follow up of the treatment of HIV positive people, in conjunction with CD4 counts.

PCR testing is not a diagnostic test. It's used to monitor people that have HIV.

PCR is also a viral load test, detecting the virus (number of copies) directly and current generation PCR's are capable to read virus population as low as 50.

Best time for a PCR is between 1 and 3 weeks when viral load of an infected person is at its maxima, due to absence of the antibodies, yet to be generated by immune system. You may go for this test if it is hard for you to stay patient, but be prepared for a "false positive" that may increase our anxiety level many folds. The only "litmus" test for HIV diagnosis is the ELISA antibody test.

By the way, a question from you two guys living in Kuwait. What kind of visa (visas for working class are issued based on profession, from most of the middle eastern emirates and kingdoms) is issued to these prostitutes ? Is prostitution allowed legally there?

Prostitution is illegally her in this country and one of the requirements to have a working visa is to take an HIV test in one of the public clinic her in Kuwait. But regarding to the prostitutes they used to enter by tourist visa for 3 month, tourist visa has not requirements at all. Stupid rules

That is incorrect. I'm given a PCR test every three months to monitor my VL.

I know you are right Teak. For HIV positive people, it is a routine test for monitoring of treatment effectiveness done at a defined interval, since viral load is one of the indication of treatment efficacy. My opinion was only for the people who want to use this test for primary investigation, though this test is not meant for. But still some doctors order this  test for this purpose and if so, then best time should be between 1 and 3 weeks.

As long as the person knows that the PCR test carries a high incidence of false positives. That is the reason the test is not recommended.

Very unfair that these emirates allow "tourist" ****** on a 3 month entry without any screening, but quickly deport victims (the poor work force living there away from their families) of these "polluted" mobile creatures,. Many Pakistanis were deported from Dubai (now one of the top class brothel in the middle east) after having been diagnosed with HIV during their annual medical check ups. Every deportee was infected from these prostitutes.

I know, you are totally right. I agree with you. Most of the oristitutes are Chineses, not ever tested and having sex with 10s of men everyday.

As teak and meworried has said, you did have a risk! Get tested at 3 months and that will be conclusive. If you want you can test earlier to get a good indicator, but 3 months is considered conclusive.

In other areas outside of the US, PCR testing is routinely done for diagnostic purposes. In the US, labor is expensive, in other parts of the world, labor is cheap. In Thailand, you can get a PCR test done for about 45 USD. What is that, a tank of gas?  I would gladly spend 45$ to get the worry monkey off of my back.

That's fine, but the test aren't approved for diagnostic testing in the US, except for helping diagnose infants.

I agree with Teak. These tests are not for primary diagnosis and screening. I am surprised to learn about their cost in Thailand. In Pakistan, this test costs over US $ 200, almost comparable with a similar test carried out anywhere in the United States.

meworried! Bangkok Thailand is beginning to be one of the most advanced and finest facilities in the world at a cheap price. Many people from the U.S. with expensive surgeries will go over there and get stuff taken care of, instead of in the U.S. Most of the stuff is farely cheaper from 10-30% cost in U.S. They had a big thing on "Dateline News" with it about two years ago.

Thank you ES for this kind update. I haven't been to Bangkok since December 1990, when it used to be like any other third world city. It is pleasing to note their development in medical sector.

Moh1980, I'm living in kuwait. Sounds like youve had experience of the clinics.. which one should i go get tested in?
By the way people, the ratio of 1;1000 chance of getting aids through vaginal sex.. is it true.. because thats all i'm living on right now.. my whole sanity is surviving on that ratio. The ratio sounds promising.. i can live with 1:1000. Sounds like you have to have really bad luck then to not survive that ratio. Any feedback??
