HIV is unable to reproduce outside its living host (unlike many bacteria or fungi, which may do so under suitable conditions), except under laboratory conditions, therefore, it does not spread or maintain infectiousness outside its host.

Here is what I asked Dr. Douglas Richman, an old friend and world-renowned HIV virologist and director of the UC San Diego Center for AIDS Research:  "To what extent can the low rate of transmission from environmental exposure to HIV contaminated secretions, and for some sharps injuries, be attributed simply to low inoculum versus nonviability of the virus? HIV is inactivated by drying. How rapidly? Does it apply equally to HIV in blood or secretions as to "free" HIV? Looked at another way, is there a difference in risk of percutaneous transmission from a contaminated needle or scalpel blade immediately, a minute later, 5 minutes later, or after an hour or a day?  Or is it all exceedingly low simply because of low inoculum size?"

He responded that inoculum size almost certainly is the main explanation, and that HIV can survive for at least a few hours in dried or drying biological materials, like blood.  [Dr. Richman didn't say it, but I would surmise it depends a lot on other environmental conditions, such as temperature and humidity.]  Basically, serum proteins and other components stabilize the virus membrane, and the virus is inactivated by drying much more rapidly when not in biological fluids.  However, he acknowledges that he is unfamiliar with the possibility of more recent research on the topic.  He agrees with me that there hasn't been much incentive to study this issue in recent years; the transmission risk is so low that understanding the biological explanation isn't a high priority.

I am just wondering about my risk.

HIV, once exposed to air, temp change and ph change damages the outer shell of the virus, inhibiting it from being able to attach to a CD4 cell and infect.

Ok I see thank you. What would be the risk if vaginal fluid ( from a girl that "came") was rubbed on a man's penis and some of the vaginal fluid was rubbed inside the urethra (-and some fluids got in the hole)? Plus he had herpes? Would there be some risk there??

Urethritis doesn't have anything to do with HIV.

How canI get one and not the other? I rubbed the inside of my urethra with vaginal fluid. From a prostitute. I am sure I was not the first customer of the day. Some of those vaginal fluids might have been mixed with cervix fluids which has a higher concentration of hiv.

Teak has explained to you above why this does not happen, You have nothing to worry about in regards to HIV.

If no risk then why did the doctor recommend the guy in the following post to test.

BECAUSE he stated this - "There was a brief moment when we were making genital contact with very brief, if any penetration"  "VERY BRIEF"  If you had unprotected penetration we would also advise you to test BUT you did not so once again NO RISK.

No swear, I DID NOT PENETRATE HER AT ALL. What happen in full detail is as follows. About 12 days ago I went to a massage parlor. The girl put on a condom on, which she touched her her fingers on the inside. The condom was in her bra and wrapped by a tissue/ napkin. Which freaks me out because of condom deterioration.

She put the condom on me and gave me oral sex for a max of 2 minutes. Know I say to minutes because when you are having fun time lapse. I asked how long I lasted and she said not more than 20 seconds( which I believe). She went get a box of Kleenex to wrap around the condom and pull it out. She had previously touched the condom, of course, but priod had applied baby oil on my back ( good thing I did not want vaginal sex because of oil). she got the Kleenex and pulled the condom out I did not inspect as it was wrap with Kleenex. She sat in the bed and asked if she could get me a warm wet .towel. I said no and she got up to hand the box of Kleenex.

I touched the bed on the part she was sitting on and I touched some liquid (vaginal fluid with perhaps some cervical fluid). She handed me a bottle of what appeared to be rubbing alcohol ( I did not read the label so I don't know the proof). I grabed a Kleenex and put it in the hand that I touched the vaginal/cervix fluids. The kleenex are thin. I poured some alcohol. And because of the thinness and transparency I could see my finger on the Kleenex. With the thin Kleenex that had rubbing alcohol I then rubbed slightly my penis (2cmm) until I RUBBEd DEEP INSIDE  my urethra.  I felt the sting as I rubbed it deep inside in my urethra. And then rubbed small parts of my penis head. I am uncircumsized and I stupidly cover my penis with foreskin. Perhaps covering some some parts I touched or did not clean well.

Later, I was driving away I felt a shock on one of my testicles, I drove home and took a shower a washed my genitals. 4/5 later I have urethitis and burning urination. I testicles (both)  felt  like they were hurting. This lasted a 2/3 days and symptoms have subsided.

2 days later I had a terrible head ached that last a couple of days. 5 days later I seemed to coming down with a slight fever but it went away. 8 days later my urine smell strong. My bro told me that but it did not smell funky. I did not drink water that much because of stress.

Oh yeah, asked if she had anything and she said di I look sick, being evasive.

Keep in mind that the only thing between my fingers, that Had touched the vaginal/ cervix fluids, was the one layer of a thin Kleenex. This thin layer I applied a small amount of alcohol as stated above.

Attempting to apply alcohol was stupid. As this could have IRRITATED my mucus membrane, penis and penis hole that I deeply rubbed, that I touched as stated immediately above.

I had previous urinary infection that Doc treated a while back with cipro. But the arthritis never really went away. So I may have an untreated STD in addition to herpes which I believe could have been active at the time of the incident.

Hey guys, sorry to bother you guys again. Bad news the burning during urination came back. And it hurts when I sit down, sometimes my testicles too. I am sure I picked up something. My tempature has gone up slightly to about 99.2 f.

I know there is a lot of debate about how long HIV lasts outside of the body. But even the doctors in their form give diff opinions.

I called the aids hotline and they told me I had a risk.
I am just puzzled if she had HIV how can she give me one infection and not another if I rubbed deeply into my urethra. Thanks guys.

How can I not get HIV and get a uti/STD. I rubbed the inside of my urethra after I had touched vaginal/cervix fluids as stated above.
And the person at aids hotline said I had a risk.

Yes I did, You never had a risk - You can not seem to understand what all of us here have been saying to you over and over. We are here to help, But if you do not believe what we tell you then what is your reasons for posting?

You had NO RISK and you were given false information regarding your no risk episode. You need to just face the facts that you never had a risk of HIV. Period

Yes it is VERY possible to get one STD and not the other, Most STD's are very easy to contract as for HIV this virus is very hard to get as to the others.

There is really nothing more we can do for you, Please believe your NO RISK assessment and move on with your life.

Hope this helps

Some other STDS can stay active when exposed to air (i.e. Hep B) but HIV is not one of those and becomes inactive and unable to infect as soon as it becomes exposed to air. There is NO risk here and nothing you add to this exposure will change our answers.

OVERVIEW:

NO RISK at all for HIV from anything you describe above - NO TESTING NEEDED - NO WORRY about HIV at all Period!

With that said, enough is enough - We really have nothing more to add

Hope this helps

Kindly Move Along...
