HIV testing, RNA Window periods etc.

Hello,

I am a male. I had unprotected intercourse with a female 85 days ago. She had tested negative for HIV a few weeks prior to this.

A few days after that I had an Oraquick type HIV test performed with blood that was negative for HIV.

I had planned to repeat the Oraquick type test at 3 months, however, I again had unprotected intercourse with the same female yesterday.

The question is what type of testing would be appropriate ?

My plan was to take an "RNA early detection" type test at 9-11 days.

Is this the correct testing ?

Would the results of the "RNA" be more accurate if I were to wait longer ? I read that one could wait up to 28 days.

Since the initial unprotected sex was 85 days ago would the RNA test no longer be valid ?

Would it make sense to do both the RNA and an antibody test ?

What would you advise ?

Thank you very much for your time

Because you had unprotected sex , so he requested for DUO test,  The test which you mentioned is right test, Take a DUO test at 29th day , its conclusive.

Thank you for your reply.

Is this type of test (DUO) available through the "on-line" std/hiv testing services or does it need to be done elsewhere through Quest or one of the other commercial labs ?

If so, what test would I request ?

Quest shows:

"HIV-1/2 Antigen and Antibodies, Fourth Generation, with Reflexes"

http://www.questdiagnostics.com/testcenter/testguide.action?dc=TS_HIV4thGenScreen

Is this the correct test ?

Where can I read more about the conceptual basis for the DUO test, in other words, I would like to understand why this test is advisable for my situation.

Also, if the 28 day DUO test is negative would there be a need for subsequent testing or is that sufficient ?

Thanks again
