When is casual contact dangerous?

Hi There,

I'm a 16 year old guy who is concerned about something.

I know HIV is not transmitted through casual contact - shaking hands, hugging etc.

But what if you shake an HIV + persons hand if they have sores/cuts and you yourself have sores/cuts?

I know when I shake a persons hand, I dont inspect mine or theirs before? And obviously I am not refering to gushing wounds??

I mean, what if i ***** myself with a sharp object (which can sometimes bleed a little) and shake a HIV+ persons hand soon thereafter? What if they have a similar injury????

Please help?

Thank you for the posts!

I just need to say I do know its impossible to contract the virus through hand shaking, hugging etc. I don't want to come across as prejudiced or ignorant!

I became concerned only after I realised that now there was point of entry into my system and I don't know if the dude had a similar injury and blood entered through the cut (similar in size to needle ***** as done for HIV test).

As to educate me - for me to contract HIV in this manner:

A) My cut would have to me much bigger/deeper?
B) He would have had to be bleeding badly and covered my hand in blood?

Am I correct?

You were never at risk and don't need any testing.

You're not sure that his hand had cuts/small sores? Well as I have said earlier, even if his hand did have cuts/small sores (which i doubt he has) your risk is very very low and not warranted for a test.
But if you remain worry, you can take a test at 3 months mark the result will undoubtedly negative but it will put down your worries permanently.

Oh gee!!!!

I was introduced to a friend of my girlfriends and shook their hand during dinner, and I had just pricked myself with the point of a steak knife (i was bleeding a bit).....only thereafter I found out the person was HIV+????

I cannot confirm if the dude had cuts/small sores on his hand????? I know he didn't bleed onto me as I'm sure I would have noticed this?????

Now I dont know what to do!!
