Worried sick that I could have HIV

2 years ago I stupidly had unprotected sex once only with someone I didn't know well, some months later I got a small rash on my lower back and was extremely shocked to discover that a swab taken from it tested positive for HSV2 I have never at any time had Genital sores or any problems in or near my vagina, only a very small rash on my back I requested it to be swabbed as I was curious to know what was causing it because I had Shingles about 4 years ago and thought it may be a re-currence of that,I am now worried I may have HIV as over the past 6 months I have developed  very painful joints in my hands and feet,I have seen a Rheumatologist who says I have RA .... but I am extremely worried since reading that Joint Pain is a symptom of HIV.... could I have contracted HIV with one exposure and not knowing this persons status,he did have a lot of tattoo's which is also worrying me.
Please give me your opinion on this as I am going mad with worry.

Thank You for your fast response,I will get tested, however I may sleep a little better tonight in the knowledge that my risk was low, this has proved how a few minutes of sheer stupidity can cause months of total mental torment,it has been a HUGE lesson learned I assure you,I would never ever again put myself at risk.
Thanks Again

The chance is very low for a one time exposure and that is assuming he had HIV which he likely didnt. Joint pains have been around much longer than HIV has so you can not use that as a sign of HIV, plus nobody will diagnose you with HIV based on symptoms. Blood testing is the only way to know. Trust your doctor, RA is a lot more common than HIV.

That said go ahead and get a test anyway to be 100% sure of your status, its been 2 years so if you did contract it by chance it would definitely show up. Run down to the clinic and get a rapid test, takes 30 minutes and you can put the worries behind you. Expect a negative result, the odds are well in your corner. Stay safe.
