am i a carrier/host already?

hi

im a heterosexual male age 41, had unprotected sex with a an 18 yr old female about 1 week ago. upon learning of her sexual habits, i kinda worried afterwards.

i immediately had an HIV test. results are due for tuesday next week. after that, i discovered this forum. i learned from teak that i need at least 3 months to accurately check if i acquired HIV. also, when i read that sore throat is a symptom, it really really got me worried because it is what i am experiencing at the moment!

granting i was exposed, am i already a carrier? meaning can i transmit this desease? or it will be after 3 months for me to be a carrier?

Move on PCR DNA test is not an approved diagnostic test.

There is a test available called HIV DNA PCR TEST which I understand is conclusive at 28 days. It is expensive but worth it for peace of mind if it really works. I am currently considering it for myself as I don't want to have to wait three months for an answer.

Hi. In the unlikely event that you contracted the hiv from your exposure above, you are indeed a carrier already and can pass on the virus. As a matter of fact, newly infected persons have very high loads of the virus and therefore more likely if anything, to pass it on. Unfortunately guidelines say, that for hiv tests to be conclusive, they have to be taken 3 months (12 weeks) past exposure. On the other hand 6 weeks test is considered highly convincing (95%). For the meantime, it's advicable to use condom to prevent spreading the virus (and contracting it of course :)
