Well, you're not listening, you didn't have a risk and any test taken today, tomorrow or any given day for this exposure will be negative. I guarantee you.
Thanks mike.
If I need a closure at the earliest for this episode, is there a test which can provide conclusive results after 8 weeks. as I am at 8 week mark.
I tried answering your question, here
relax breakage happens it happened to me you will pull out fine try and not think about it
1. Condom breakages are very evident. If it breaks you would know it.
2. It must have been latex because lambskin condoms are expensive and the kind of setting that you are talking about won't use some thing which would cost them Rs.80 for a lambskin condom.
3. You didn't have a risk at the first place. Condoms are safe.
Also I am not sure if the condom broke..
I just read on this forum that (two condoms is risky)
My exposure was, Protected With a prostitue...
bt not sure whether that was a latex condom or not
I never checked what was the condom (or brand/company) also used double condom. and she had put some lubricant on the condom...
not sure if that's water based or oil based.
Do you think I can relax a bit with the 45th day -ve test.
Indeed, I'm young but quick ;p !
The reason, I say 6 weeks negative is very unlikely to change ahead is simple logic, research papers that I have certainly taken my time to go through and nonetheless several docs own piece of mind !
Let me elaborate;
1.The average time to seroconvert after HIV infection is 22 days Per FDA / CDC
2. Detectable amount of antibodies are almost always present in a person's body two weeks following seroconversion.
3. Hence, a negative AB test at week 5 it's very reassuring. However, taking a chance on your hunch won't be worthy. So, we go with a buffer here "1 week". Total 6 weeks.
I'm sure I have been able to clearly explain what's the logic behind a 6 week negative. But the problem here is "acceptance". Now when I say that, I mean all kind of acceptance. We won't accept the test result because our mind is conditioned to 12 weeks / 12 months. Who's to be blamed, the outdated information available all around!
The docs won't accept a 6 week because that's what they have learned in their text book. However, if you ask some one like Dr. HH. who researchs and not treat patients will tell you that 6 week's reliable. Why? Because he takes the pain to update himself with the recent developments unlike all those GPs and Docs, who treat patients and recommend what they have learnt in the year 1994.
Now coming to the second part of your question, Yes. Irrespective of the AB test generation a test at the 42 days or + is very indicative.
Hope this helps.
Mike
if you stop it immediately when comdon broke, your situation is no risk...
Mikey,
What's your source for this information. you are 22 young from bombay... ( sorry to ask but how can you say, 6 weeks negative changing ahead is highly unlikely and something that's unheard to me. )
also if this is rue, do you think the test's they do in (India) Apollo are of world standard?
is a -ve elisa at 45th day from Apollo meets the acuracy that you are confident about?
Yoyo,
Alright, now relax and stop thinking about it, think logically and rationally.
Through my personal experience, I can tell you that condom breakage exposure is no joke. It's a major psychological setback more than an HIV risk, simply thinking about HIV.
Yes, you did have a risk and need to test.
For one to contract HIV, he/she has to be exposed to substantial amount of infected fluid and female to male transmission of the virus is relatively difficult.
It's very unlikely that your partner was infected and even if she was, it's highly unlikely that the infected semen of your partner had entered you through the urethra.
You must have been inside her unprotected for a very small time, which wouldn't be adequate enough to transmit the virus to you.
Symptoms means nothing, I can tell you that I have seen lot of people here on the board complaining about every possible symptoms the book reads for however running around with their conclusive 3 months negative result around with all the woo hoos
There's absolutely no need to go panicky, follow the right procedure, test at the 6th week from the date of your exposure and back it up with a final test at the 3rd month.
6 weeks negative changing ahead is highly unlikely and something that's unheard to me.
I'm very confident that your result would be negative cuz I & several others fared negative too during their scare which was very similar to yours :)
And Yes, your symptoms have nothing to do with HIV ARS since the real ARS symptoms don't show up so soon after the exposure, it's all ANXIETY symptoms.
Good Luck
Mike
