Sex assault and HIV testing

Hello board. I was sexually assaulted on may 19, 2010. I was examined and given all my base testing within 12 hours of the assault. My base HIV test was negative and they took blood. I obviously need to retest I was going to go at the 6 week mark which is coming up and then again at the 3 month mark to be sure. The clinic I was going to go to for retesting suggested the rapid test. I've never had one. Are they accurate? I heard they are a mouth swab? Sorry I am not more familiar with the correct terms for the tests. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This has all been very hard on me. Thanks again.

Thank you all for your input. I never heard of the rapid blood test. Sorry I  not more familiar this is all new to me. I have a rapid oral swab test scheduled for next week which is the six week mark. I will then go back at three months for my conclusive test. Thanks again it's nice to know there is a place to come and ask questions. Much appreciated.

I am sorry to hear what you had been through. I understand this certainly is not consensual and hope you are takin the help of the law to seek justice.

Rapid tests are accurate and reliable, please go ahead and take that test at the 6th week, a 6 week negative is highly indicative and very unlikely to change ahead.

I wish you luck and do write should you need any further assitance with testing or knowing some thing else.

Sorry to hear your story.. However, If I were you I would rather have the  HIVrapid blood testing rather than the oraquick swab test. Why? because blood testing is more accurate than the swab test.

At 6 weeks around 90-95% accuracy. And it will definitely not change. Of course Government Agencies and other institutions will say 3 months is conclusive just to be safe on their part. But relax, your results at 6 weeks is highly re-assuring..

Thank you joggen. Next week is six weeks. I will take the rapid test then. I will also do the one at three months to be conclusive. Thank you all

The rapid tests are very accurate at 6 weeks- a negative result will be reassuring because there is very little chance of it changing at 3 months.

Hey there. Yes there was vaginal penetration and he didn't use a condom. I've been majorly stressing. Though I am already in therapy. The night they examined me they gave me a shot of rocephin and doxycycline as a preventative measure for stds. Now I just wait. I know the three month test is conclusive and I plan on getting that. Do you think I should even bother with the six week rapid test? Thanks again board for listening to me.

Sorry this happened to you. Was there any vaginal or anal penetration in the assault? If not, not risk. If so, do you know if he wore a condom? If there was a risk (which we need more information to determine) then testing at 3 mons will give a conclusive result. Can't really do anything else but wait and try not to stress out. Hope you are seeking counseling for the assault and for the anxiety. God bless
