on oct 27 I had unprotected anal sex. on  December 26th 8 weeks & 5 days(9 1/2weeks)  I tested HIV negative/non-reacted with a ag/ab combo assay western blot. I know on the 12th or 13th or further I have to retest. But if I got a non-reaction at 8 weeks & 5 days (9 1/2weeks), does that most likely mean Im hiv free?

The test can be done within hours it just depends on whether you are tested in the lab, hospital or doctors surgery and if they have to send it away.

A combo assay means that it is looking for antigen and antibodies.

Test again at 12 weeks to be offically classed as conclusive but I do not believe that it is going to change and my opinon is that your 8 1/2 weekk test is realiable.

Stop worrying, get out and do something else.  You do not have HIV.

If I received a negative DUO at 9 weeks I would be jumping for joy.Only to make it official do you need to test at 12 weeks where you will collect another negative result.

Like I have already said, that 9 week negative DUO won't change at 12 weeks and you need to accept this and move on with life.

wow. So I trust your words as well as ZAMZAM's. I appreciate the advice even though im a total stranger. I just hope with every single bit of honest information im giving you It is able to come out to Im HIV negative..like I said I did test negative in the middle of week 9...I just want to rid of this emotional feeling it is the worse feeling ever..All I can say is that I will never put myself in this situation ever again. Most people dont test at all because they are too scared. I was terrified at first but I just had to know..

Now that I found out negative in the middle of week 9..it shouldve put the anxiety to rest on me assuming I have been infected huh,,..?

. Im a 22 heterosexual male it  was just a stupid dumb idiotic decision i will never make again. but if i had anal sex unprotected and tested in the middle of 9 Weeks (4th day out of 7) from the ag. Ab combo assay like i said the results were given on DEC 27 test was taken a day before. the situation of exposure was on OCTOBER 27 . which matches my dates correctly..are you 100 percent my test was sufficient enough to put an end to this hiv threat..?

Yes,I would stop worrying right now because our expert doctors here at medhelp have never seen a 9 week negative then turn positive at 12 weeks. This is why your 12 week test result will be negative. You're safe.

I understand don't worry about it, at times like this is very stressful but you have to be careful to focus on the facts and not the fear.  The fear is you took a risk, the fact is you have a nearly 9 week negative which in my book is vey reliable.  My clinic is governed by the ministry of health  and we have to follow correct protocol as far as the advice we give out to people and I give the same advice out in my clinic.

Yes, re test at 12 weeks but your result isn't going to change.

by the way sorry for the continuing questions...im just nervous/anxious as you can tell....

I suffered for years with HIV OCD and educated myself.  As part of my CBT I worked in a HIV clinic and still work there now counselling people before and after their tests.
