You have 2 different time frames here 8 1/2 weeks and 9 1/2 weeks. I'll go with the earlier one.
A negative at 8 1/2 weeks is highly highly unlikley to change, you do not have HIV.
Yes, it means that the strong likelihood is that you do not have HIV. As you say you need to test at three months to confirm, but it is highly unlikely to change.
Like I said it happened on October 27th. On December 26th I tood what I believe was a 4th generation test, the combo assay AG/AB. My results did come in the next day on December 27th, leaving that at 8 full weeks & 5 out of 7 days in week 9.
Just to be on the safe side I do want to take another test. I figured after this test results I would feel calm but the fear still lingers. Im honestly not sexually active at all the situation on October 27 was the only sexual encounter I had since May of that year in 2011. I am a heterosexual male just had a stupid decision of putting myself at risk. there was no ejaculation done. However I knew an HIV test was certain to determine my status. I will remain celebent for a very long time due to this scare.
but on the contrary. If I tested HIV negative/non-reacted in 8 weeks and 5 days ( almost 9 weeks) should I feel worried of that status changing in week 12? its only 2 weeks and 5 days away from the official 12 week period...
You dont have to remain celibate, you just need to wear a condom.
No you do not need to worried, it will also be negative.
thanks for the advice. Although I will remain celebent as a personal choice due to this horrific scare...but in reality are you sure If I came up negative on 8 weeks almost finishing 9 weeks does that mean I can relax of thinking im infected?...
Yes you can relax, you are not infected. You can have sex with whoever you want, just use condoms.
I will definitely wear condoms...can I ask you something what makes you so sure I am HIV negative. Im being completely honest on the details and test dates of my situation, but how can you be so sure?.....
In my opinion and experience if you were going to seroconvert you would have done by now. The time to average seroconversion is only 22 days and most infections will be picked up on a standard antibody by 40 days.
A DUO test is reliable from 4 weeks as it picks up both antigen and antibodies.
Antigen is picked up from about 3 weeks onwards, peaks at 4 and almost non existent by 10 weeks. The Ag antibody is detectable from about 5 weeks and the Ab is detectable about a week after.
This is why the advice given out is that a 6 week negative on s standard antibody test is unlikley to change.
Your test would either be negative or inderterminant at this point.
ok so this test I took the AG/AB western blot combo assay, that is the test your talking about correct? so what your saying is that the results couldve been inderterminant as in it couldve been wrong?....
No inderteminant means inconclusive and your doctor would have ordered further testing.
well my combo assay test was done at a laboratory. the test was just like drawing blood, I fiqured it would took a longer time for me to see results but the results came in the next day...So just to summrize this all up..even though I tested on Dec 26, the even happened Oct 27. 8 weeks done and 5 days on week 9 is when the test was made,,,Do i just shut up and stop worrying if on that day it was read Non-reacted??
zamzam whoever you are thank you. I will take your advice most definitely....one more thing with the details ive given you, if you were in my exact postion got tested on the same time and everything and seen negative results would that put an end to your worries?..
well mr zamzam I will take your advice...my question is how do you know all this information??
I suffered for years with HIV OCD and educated myself. As part of my CBT I worked in a HIV clinic and still work there now counselling people before and after their tests.
wow thats great man..at least you have the knowledge to give proper advice for fools like me. You bing an experienced person I will take your advice. but your almost certain with all the details I have given you on it was almost already 9 weeks done and got negative results from test this would be certain I am HIV negative??
by the way sorry for the continuing questions...im just nervous/anxious as you can tell....
I understand don't worry about it, at times like this is very stressful but you have to be careful to focus on the facts and not the fear. The fear is you took a risk, the fact is you have a nearly 9 week negative which in my book is vey reliable. My clinic is governed by the ministry of health and we have to follow correct protocol as far as the advice we give out to people and I give the same advice out in my clinic.
Yes, re test at 12 weeks but your result isn't going to change.
thanks im just still so nervous. your positive it would be a negative result again at twelve? if i honestly tested negative at 9 weeks with a combo ag.ab assay should I just stop worrying.
Yes,I would stop worrying right now because our expert doctors here at medhelp have never seen a 9 week negative then turn positive at 12 weeks. This is why your 12 week test result will be negative. You're safe.
. Im a 22 heterosexual male it was just a stupid dumb idiotic decision i will never make again. but if i had anal sex unprotected and tested in the middle of 9 Weeks (4th day out of 7) from the ag. Ab combo assay like i said the results were given on DEC 27 test was taken a day before. the situation of exposure was on OCTOBER 27 . which matches my dates correctly..are you 100 percent my test was sufficient enough to put an end to this hiv threat..?
I would say yes,but to make it official one should test out to 12 weeks.Like I said before, the result won't change. You will test negative again at 12 weeks.
all information seems to all tell me I will be ok..I sure hope so..I will re test on week 12 just to make a case closed. but other than that with all the information Ive given you; would you classify me as an HIV negative?
A combo assay means that it is looking for antigen and antibodies.
Test again at 12 weeks to be offically classed as conclusive but I do not believe that it is going to change and my opinon is that your 8 1/2 weekk test is realiable.
Stop worrying, get out and do something else. You do not have HIV.
