hepatitis C and HIV coinfection

Hi,

If someone gets infected with Hep C and HIV at the same time after an intercourse, will the window period for that person change for antibodies test or will it remain the same?
Also can Hep C virus be transmitted via heterosexual intercourse?

Thanks!

Dejavu!

Co infection with HCV with not delay your sero-conversion.  Or at least there is not a sufficient amount of supporting evidence to confirm that it does delay it.

Best wishes

I have been searching for the answer to that question about Hiv and Hep C coinfection and the views along with anything associated with Hiv are  mixed, however if you go by what our expert doctors say about it all then the window period remains the same--3 Months and delayed seroconversion doesn,t occur.I think those cases were all in the 90,s and extremely rare. There is a test that you can have that will be conclusive 7 days post-exposure for HCV and that,s the HCV RNA PCR.The 2 viruses are different so the immune system would produce detectable antibodies for both.It is extremely rare to contract Hep C from hetrosexual intercourse.
