more of a statement

I was reading a thread where an advisor stated that the ELISA and rapid test were the "same" tests. The ELISA uses different proteins and peptide antigens.   It requires trained lab techs, specific equipment and electricity supply. Because of this it will generally produce a positive result before the RT. Rapid tests such as oraquick advanced looks for antibodies to only one antigen and do not require extensive training for operation because its easy to perform. While they are both excellent for diagnosing infection. They are not by any means the "same" test. Just saying.

Thanks nursegirl. Not feeling too anxious at all. Just still having pain in my ribs groin elbows back of head underarms. Also recently developed joint pain and sharp pains in my hands and feet. Always been healthy as a horse but I guess all is subject to change. Thanks again.

I went ahead and added to my stress by looking on the net. All the info about rapid tests and how they lack sensitivity has no bearing on your guys'assessment?

I apologize for the entry in the living with. The pain I've been feeling has had me feeling like I need to prepare for the worst. I have kids and not in the best position insurance wise. I didn't state I was positive.  But I didn't know where else to ask that question. Once again my apologies.

It's funny you have a thread in the living with forum saying you are positive.

Those counselors are spreading fear and making people worry for nothing and they are just puppets reading outdated stats and information. You can have total trust in your negative results and no need to stress anymore. All the best.

Like said I didn't google first. Just got these pains in my groin then in my gut then within a day it was all over my body. It stings. I hadn't even been worried about hiv. Ill keep checking for other causes.

Thanks man. Damn counselors just keep telling me that they've seen people turn pos when they come back for their 6 month. I've tested for everything else EBV, hepABC,stds. All neg. I hope some other terrible thing isn't getting worse while I've been waiting. Anyway I'm rambling. Thanks for your reassurance.

The answer is VERY simple....you don't have HIV, your tests prove that.

Your "symptoms" are not even consistent with HIV anyway.

You state you have "persistent generalized lymphadenopathy"...based on what?  Searching on the internet?  As an RN, I can tell you that a lay person would NOT be able to diagnose an inflamed lymph node...it takes LOTS of practice and formal training to be able to do that.  Nodes will almost always be palpable in one respect or another.  People asume if they can feel them, they're swollen.  That's absolutely NOT true.

What you need to do is let this GO and move on with your life.  You don't have HIV.

Just to add I've had unprotected sex before and never felt anything like this. Never was responsible enough to worry about hiv.

Both tests look for antibodies anyway.15 weeks is conclusive.

I've been here before. I've asked on this and other forums. I've had rapid tests out to 15 weeks with unigold and oraquick. After unprotected sex I contracted chlamydia. A week later I got a sore throat that lasted weeks. 3 weeks after exposure I had muscle ache joint pain and what I believe to be persistent generalized lymphadenopathy which is still here 4 months later. Its actually painful. I knew nothing of hiv symptoms before this. I didn't google and then suddenly develop symptoms. With multiple Test I'm just confused. Should I keep testing. I wanted the Elisa but no one where I live does anonymous blood draw only rapid test.
