needle questiom

was sitting on a bus and you know sometimes when you can here things on the floor and not really pay attention well the guy behind me kicked something towards my leg - at first i didnt look but it really hurt i looked down and there was a tiny needle and syringe attached,

i have read the forums and things and everyone says there is "no risk" but my question is slightly diffrent i think. The guy kicked it literally 30 cm behind me, if he kicked the part where you push the syringe down and then that needle poked me is that the same as injecting? does that make sense

so this random guy kicks a syringe towards your foot?  did you pick up that syringe and inject into your vein?

you had no risk.

See that is the "what if" question and for your situation to happen we are talking about a 1 in a 1,000,000,000,000,000 etc chance.

Ok, im just more concerned when the person behind me waked it into my foot- and the syringe thats all.... it would have been fresh blood wouldnt it so even if it was pressed down a little bit with the force of the kick nothing would have time to die

Nothing to worry about from the situation you provided above.

HA HA! No i was not going to ask that - it was rolling around on the floor so it won't have been that quick. So i am at no risk - i have never really picked a syringe up and played around with it so i dont know how wasy it is to press down hence the question

so i have nothing to worry about?

He means that in a healthcare setting everything in/on the needle is fresh so any blood does not have time to deactivate due to air and other elements. Also in healthcare settings a lot of times actual injection takes place. When something has been lying around then the air deactivates the virus. Also nothing was injected into you, the plunger on a syringe just does not magically depress.

And please do not ask, "what if the guy just injected himself" or something like that

How is it possible in a healthcare setting - and not outside? would it not be the same thing? if they had just used it

No. While it is possible to get infected with HIV if you are stuck with a needle that is contaminated with HIV, there are no documented cases of transmission outside of a health-care setting.
