10 Week Symptoms

hi all .. i had unprotected sex with a highly questionable male partner 10 weeks ago and need help understanding how my symptoms might be related.. during the inital phase i didnt have the typical flu like symptoms .. tho, i did suffer thru some substanstial legs aches and pains .. but i had just finished 3-4 months of excessive exercise and cardiovascular training which could account for the pain ..

since then i have shown no symptoms until last week when i started to get tingling or pins and needle feeling in my arms and legs .. this feeling has increased and now i have general soreness and aches in my limbs leading up to the pins and needle feeling in my hands and feet

so my questions are-

1. after 10 weeks of exposure are pins and needles a typical symptom?

2. are leg aches and pains a symptom after initial exposure or after 10 weeks?

thanks

good advice (hard to follow tho).  if not HIV, what other sorts of infections could be causing what i'm experiencing, in your opinion?  EBV?

i dont see a need to be so concerned here relax and chill out and stop reading everything you come across about hiv

yes, i have been doing research - i am a pretty rational person normally, but this is really freaking me out.  but the internet is my only outlet until i get back on land, so it's difficult not to research my symptoms.  my symptoms are definitely there, but i'm just hoping they are not HIV-related.  thank you for listening - it is helpful.

symptoms are not a valid indicator for hiv infection

ok - i hope not, i will get tested in a few weeks - i am not able to now, as i am working on a ship - which makes the waiting game that much more torturous.  plus my symptoms are compatible with early hiv-infection, according to "the body" and several other reputable sites - so i'm truly concerned.  with early hiv infection, would some symptoms linger?  for example, i had the sore throat, etc but that has passed - now my symptoms are (mildly) swollen glands, stomach pain, white film on tongue (thrush-like film on gums this monrnig for the first time), and mainly the pins and needles and fatigue.

i noticed the blood in the water in the toiled bowl - the blood was stuck to a bit of fuzz that must have attached to my penis after the sexual encounter (during sleep) - that's how i noticed it.  like i said, i wouldn't be concerned if this were "just a blow job", but since there was definite blood involved, i'm a bit more concerned.  if HIV+ blood entered my urethra, is transmission possible?

In the history of HIV there has never been anyone contract HIV from getting a blow job and you won't be the first. Like you were told before, if you have a concern about passing blood see your doctor. It is not an HIV concern.

you must have good eyesight to see two drops of blood come out of your penis

hi teak - thank you for your reassurance.  the thing that concerns me is that blood was involved - when i urinated the next morning, two drops of blood came out of my penis, and there was a small cut on my lip.  so there was definite exposure to blood - hopefully mine, not his.  but of course, i'm not sure.  i've read that pins and needles can be a symptom of early hiv infection.  this morning i also noticed a thrush-like film on my gums.  i continue to have a white tongue, since about a week post-exposure.  still have mild stomach pain.

i do appreciate your advice - please explain why you discount the blood factor so quickly (i hope to share your confidence).  :)

You were never at risk for HIV from receiving a blow job. See your doctor if you have a concern. It has nothing to do with HIV.

hello - i had a possibly exposure to HIV recently (i received a blow job but i noticed blood the next day when i urinated - not sure if it was mine or his).  within 5 days, i had sore throat, swollen glands, fatigue, stomach cramps etc.  it's now day 12 and the fatigue is still there, but i also have pins and needles in my feet, hands, arms, and legs - my glands are still a bit swollen but the sore throat is gone.  i also have  atighness in my chest.  i was tested for all STD's, including rapid HIV - all neg.  i know i am still in the window for HIV so i was just checking if pins and needles in the first few weeks was consistent with early HIV infection.  thanks

Hi Czechboy, neither pins and needles, nor aches and pains are a symptom of primary HIV infection, especially after 10 weeks. ARS symptoms normally occur 2-4 weeks after exposure and include high fever (100 plus), rash and swollen lymph nodes (very hard to diagnose unless by a medical professional so don't try and find them yourself!), but 10-20% have no symptoms whatsoever.

Therefore, symptoms are never a good indication of HIV infection. The only thing that will tell you for sure is a HIV test. At 10 weeks, a simple rapid HIV test will tell you conclusively within 20 minutes.

To give you some peace of mind, single exposures with a known HIV+ individual are actually relatively low risk. If you check some of the threads, I think the estimate is about 1 in 1000.

Hope that's helpful and good luck.
