Please do not post things that cause MORE anxiety for people. They are anxious enough as it is.
l saw u were from south africa? that part of Africa has high rate of HIV infection, there is not much to worry now cause there is medicine for HIV and someone can live many years, but it doesnt mean that u were infected,it only means that u should have been very careful.when did your B.F test? how long did u have to wait for the results?
l really wish u turn out negative,, hope the PEP will help and if u are negative,,never ever have unprotected sex with someone without knowing their "conclusive status"best wished
PEP is only effective for the exposures within the prior 72 hours of starting the medication course. Therefore, any exposures you had prior to the 72 hour window would not be affected by the PEP. Was his + HIV test verified by a Western Blot? If he only had a POS Elisa test, the results are not conclusive, a POS result on an ELISA needs to either be confirmed or ruled out by a WB.
If he is indeed POS, just remember that even having unprotected sex with him still isn't a guaruntee that you will become infected. Finish your course of PEP as directed by the physician, make sure your BF's test was confirmed by a WB, and test at 3 months after YOUR LAST DOSE OF PEP for a conclusive result.
I'm sure it is a very anxious time for you, but please do not get overly stressed just yet, you may come thru this okay. A lot of people with high risk exposures end up not infected, plus you had the benefit of getting PEP in a timely fashion. That plays in your favor.
One thing I wanted to clarify....did you have unprotected intercourse with him AFTER he had the inconclusive result? If so, that doesn't make any sense. Inconclusive can often mean "negative", but certainly it is something that one needs to look into, I just don't get why you would take such a risk? I'm not judging, just trying to understand.
Best of luck...hang in there.
