Risk of HIV?

This incident is killing me! Lately, I noticed that the sidewalks near where I live started to have hypodermic needles appearing. Not sure if they are used by drug addicts. Anyway, on the way to work one day, I came across one of those needles. Being the OCD me, I am now plagued by fears that I can contract HIV or some diseases from them. I was wearing long pants and leather shoes with socks that day.

Question: Any chances the needle could have penetrated my clothing and pierced my skin? I did not feel any pain nor touched the needle (although in my freaked out state now, I am imagining I could have..)

Totally freaked out now. Please tell me I am fine and that I can go and play with my 2-month old baby now...

Thanks!
