question about exposure

i read an article the other day that talked about hiv being transmitted through bloody saliva, from mothers to babies. here is a link: http://www.reuters.com/article/newsOne/idUSN0631284520080206

my question is how is the situation from the article different from someone spitting bloody saliva into your mouth or food (two things which i've been told don't transmit hiv)?  shouldn't someone spitting bloody saliva into your mouth/food also transmit hiv if you have sensitive gums that tend to bleed?

just trying to get some clarity, thanks very much.

First of all...unless someone is pre-chewing YOUR food with a bloody mouth...the story you cited has no relevance.

NO one has ever gotten HIV from food, or drink.

You need to get past this.

sorry to bug you again, but just to be sure: is the reason that my coming into contact with blood through food not risky because the air would kill hiv?  even if the blood may have still been wet?

or is there another reason?

thanks

my hunch is also that there wasn't a risk.

but would it be possible for you to comment on that situation in the article?  it's about women infecting their babies through pre-chewed food.  i just want to know how that can transmit HIV but someone contaminating my food with bloody saliva may not.

thanks very much
