similarity/differences in tests

A friend of mine recently had 4 tests,2 involve testing for the p24 antigen.1 is from Abbot(AntiHIV1,0,2+p24-Ag Abbot,4.Generatio) and 1 is from Murex(HIV-p24-Antigen Murex HIV Antigenmab). The first was positive and the second was negative. And though I have spent several days trying to find out more about these tests,I have only found out the Murex test is more sensitive. Is there anyone who can tell me more? Thanks.

sorry...new at this

Ok,his background,in the military for 14 years so he is seriously over-vaccinated.He is in a low risk population.Became ill in states(2007)during job and when got back to Germany went to doctor/hospital...they couldn"t figure it out so sent him on his way.He was back 2wks later, they said he had HepB(not possible, though antigens there from vaccination),ulcerative colitis, and thought he might have HIV.So they test him, without his permission, and send him on his way after saying he was pos without any counseling or treatment or addressing the Dx of colitis. He was fine, healthwise, until 2009....then he goes to another (university)hospital. The doc says he had it for 10 years. That is where they started treating him with Atripla, which he is now off on my recommendation.(NOTE:I find this interesting because if he truly had HepB,wouldn't the doctor have given him something else considering that something in Atripla exacerbates HepB to the point of liver failure?)I do not believe he has HIV,even the most recent tests were considered FP/WBi by the lab...but I didn't want to say that because I need definitive information(like virus isolation and culture and differences/similarities in p24 Ag tests) before I take on these clowns because he already had tests done to indicate he was pos when he was seriously ill,and doctors don't like saying they are wrong,I am educated, and have worked in the medical field and I am seriously outraged at the treatment of human beings by these "doctors"who have stock in BIG PHARMA.I am becoming an advocate of people who have been diagnosed with HIV...and boy do I have a lot of info from my research which I hope benefits a lot of people that are confused....so,enough background?....and thank you for answering,I just need that one piece of the puzzle.By the way,on last test for VL,after being off Atripla for 2 1/2 mths,he got a call from his doc.She was in a panic because he had no med in his system but his VL went from 500 to 285 and she didn't know why...she had never called him before or informed him of any test results in spite of his request that she do so.I put him on a high-fiber diet, that is all...But then, she hadn't met me....thank you again, really regret

Hi luddite,

The important information that the people in this forum needs to know before we can help you is the exposure details of your friend. (When did it happen, what happened, and how long after the incident were the tests done)

May God bless
