IDUs aren't common, but there is a notable gay population. Also, stats show prostitutes here have only a 65% consistent condom use incidence. Most people here who test positive are actually overseas workers who come back after years abroad. Of course, most positives are from that demographic because they're required to test before leaving again.
I must admit, I know nothing about the Philippines (outside the fact that Philippino girls are nice!)
There is always a chance that the stats are lowered, becuase few of the higher risk people would volunteer to test. But on the other hand, if you have a "traditionalist" society with few gays, IDUs and if the prostitutes are educated and careful - that number just might be real. That's good to know!
Total known HIV cases in the Philippines (I forgot our population, but I know our capital region has 6 million people) is less than 3000. Dunno why.

Orion: yep, that sounds right! That is great, your country is doing very well!
Teak: what ARE you smoking, dude? I don't even know what you are talking about, what medical care? whatever...
published incidence rate in the philippines is 0.01 percent or 1 in 10,000. I think this was based on a survey of almost 60,000 prostitutes.
I don't see where you say that over 50% of the population in China does not get medicial care. regularjoey, you need to move on. The information that I provided came from WHO. Which unlike you, know what they are talking about.
mac: I've already done all my studying, believe me ))
orion: my mistake, will get the Philippines info tomorrow )))
It's not so much that homosexuality is banned by the state, but that homosexuality is still taboo in conservative Chinese culture.
I meant mac is right in that testing may be needed. Also, I'm from the philippines, not indonesia
Joey and his home made theories....
You need a lot of studying... you dont know what you are saying, You should not post information that you're not sure...
That's a good question! I actually always wanted to ask you what kind of work do you do to spend all this time on the HIV forums. You probably total more posts than everybody else combined )))
Why am I reading threads here in the first place?
There you go again - reread the thread. I never started any argument, it was Teak who butted in with his ridiculous "stats". Why do I care? I don't. Some days are slower than others, this keeps me busy, it's fun. But you can be sure that I will leave this forum as soon as I see anyone else here giving out good info on HIV. In the meantime, I'll do it myself.
Why do you care so much?
This person will test negative so who cares...?
Oh, I know your type. I had some friends like you in high school. Just loves to argue. When you bring up this obvious fact with them, they state "oh, I just can't stand when somebody isn't telling the truth." It's always about inconsequential BS that means nothing to anyone. It could be an obvious truth; they just NEED to argue the opposite point. Every single post here (that isn't the usual protected risk/unprotected oral) ends with you bringing up the very tiniest inaccuracy (or lackthereof) in one of Teak's posts.
Teak, the key word in that chart you kindly posted is "reported".
When homosexuality is basically banned by the state, do you expect people to come forward and report their homosexual encounters??? Come on now. 0.2% for homosexual transmission??? Wake up, man. You can't believe every single thing you read on the net, especially when it is so obviously wrong.
The point is, wohaipa has a higher chance winning the lotto than testing positive. That's all that needs to be said here.
And any cretins wondering if their rubber broke or not. I experienced my first broken rubber last week....it was so obvious (everything felt much better :) ). There is NO QUESTION about it. You would have to be blind and have zero sense of touch to not notice it. Air pockets don't matter, slippage (as long as it's on), doesn't matter.
NO NO NO
Stop thinking out of your behind.
That's the WHOLE point....undoubtedly many many many people have had some sort of condition not totally covered by the rubber (no condom instructions ever say anything about this, so....). Rubber used (regardless of condition present) = ZERO RISK. The only risk from a condom is if it breaks.
THERE ARE NO SUCH THING AS MICROSCOPIC HOLES either. Don't be dumb and follow up asking about this.
What does commercial blood donors mean???????
Does getting blood taken fall into this category?
Reported Modes of Transmission
Intravenous drugs users (IDU) (%) 61.6 68.0 68.7
Commercial blood donors (%) 9.4 9.7 7.0
Heterosexual transmission (%) 8.4 7.2 6.7
Homosexual transmission (%) -- -- 0.2
Mother-to-infant (%) 0.3 -- 0.1
What does the definition of homosexuality being removed from a mental disorder in China have to do with the transmission rate of HIV? Did you think that would up set me or something? It didn't. The US didn't remove homosexuality from being a mental disorder until 1973.
all of these HIV infections, none of you think that in rare cases some of these people got HIV having protected sex? Men scratch around the penis all the time. It's concievable to me that you peel skin and vaginal fluid can get in their during sex.
It is a joke - see my comment above, in case you missed it:
"Also, forgot to add - risk assessment varies for different countries.
For Indonesia, where Orion is from and wherever macgyver is from (India?) it might make more sense to test, since there is a higher risk of the exposure. But that does not apply to the western countries and, in my opinion, not to China either."
Look, the percentages you posted are B.S. reported by the Chinese government. Don't forget that until recently homosexuality was defined as a mental disorder in China. But regardless, clearly straight sex is a very minor route of HIV transmission in China and it's probably all confined to sex work anyway.
