Medication reimbursement and Cobra acceptance

Medication reimbursement and Cobra acceptance

Hello,

We have been paying out of pocket for my hubby’s meds the last 2 months, while we wait for hubby’s COBRA approval.  My husband has just been approved for COBRA and he has paid his premium.  Once COBRA kicks in, will he receive money back for this out of pocket expense?  He has spent over one thousand dollars in out of pocket expenses.  How long would this usually take?

Dear crazineko,

COBRA coverage is typically retroactive as is the COBRA premium. In other words claims can be submitted to the insurance carrier once the COBRA premiums have been made.

The only thing I have seen in the past that can potentially pose a hurdle is situations where the carrier requires pre- authorization. Hopefully that is not the case here & you will get reimbursed soon.

Sincerely,
