Please Help - dentist billing me for...

Everyone

I had some work done at the dentist. The billing office initially didn't think I had insurance that would cover the procedures and quoted me the "office" price. Later we discovered I did indeed have dental insurance. The procedures were performed and I paid the in network negotiated price up front. It turns out the dental insurance denied most of my procedures and the dental office now wants me to pay the difference between the original quoted office price and the Aetna dental insurance agreed pricing.

Is this legal?

My EOB from Aetna shows that my dentist may bill me for the agreed pricing amount, not the original office amount that was submitted to them.

The dental office originally inferred that if ANY amount was covered by Aetna I would get a refund because I had already paid the agreed Aetna amount up front. I did not get this in writing.

Distrought over my new unexpected bill

Dear djosephm,

Most health care providers for PPO plans including dentists have their patients sign a document that makes the patient take responsibility for any service that is not covered by the insurer. If you have signed this agreement, then your best bet to keep pleading and negotiating with the dentist office and use arguments like your loyalty to the dentist, good intention & the bad economy to reduce your responsibility as much as possible.

Sincerely,
