Hearing problems

I've never had a hearing test but I'm wondering if I should have one.
I have Tinnitus which can be irritating but there's not much that can be done for that but my main problem is the fact that I don't often hear what people say to me when there's a bit of background noise or if they're turned away from me when other people can.
Most people would say go get your hearing checked now but I often hear things like my name being called from rooms away or parts of a conversation said in whispers which makes me confused as to whether I really have a problem or not.
