Exercise and Medication

I am on Cardizem and Rythmol for Afib.  My question is, how can the heart get maximum benefit from exercise if the medication you take slows the heart rate?

Thanks.

Hello this is P,

Doctor would you recommend then that I go through with the EP?

Will Dr.Winkle know what is wrong with my heart before he does the cather abalation?(How can they tell which artery is messed up?)

Will it be painful?

What is this Radio Frequency?

I usually get rapid-heartbeats from playing basketball, running mile, getting into a physical fight, and when I get adrenalan rushes from time to time.  My main problem now is Palpitations.
What are the chances of me becoming like a normal person?  No one in my family has heart trouble except me.  I am 5"10 barefoot and I weigh 130 lbs bareclothes.  I am 19 years old.  Please help me out.  Has anyone had success through this process of these Catherizations?

My doc said that this problem is 98% curable.  He said that there is 1 chance in a 1000 that I can die from this.  2 chances in 400 that I can end up with a pacemaker.

Please I can't live with a pacemaker.  I would rather die than to live like this.  This has brought a lot of stress on my family.

Any info on the EP or Cather Abalition will be greatly appreciated.

Regards:P

Hi,

After workout my pulse rate stays higher for a long time. Is this normal? The BP comes down after 10-15 minutes of rest, but the pulse rate remains high for as long as 3-4 hours. Usually my resting pulse rate is 65-70, but the pulse rate remains 80-95 after workout for a long time. Is this normal? Thank you.

Cardizem does blunt the maximum heart rate that you can achieve. However, it does not prevent entirely the increase in heart rate that occurs with exercise. Therefore, exercise can still raise the heart rate to a level that is beneficial to the heart. In fact, only a moderate degree of heart rate elevation is needed to gain the benefits of exercise.
