Blood pressure rises after using beta blocker

by Buddy0, Dec 01, 2007 11:43AM
I have been diagnosed with labile hypertension.  Most of the time my BP runs in the 120s to low 130s over 80s.  In a white-coat situation, or under stress, it can jump higher.  I take 300 mg Avapro.  But have tried a variety of other BP medications, all of which had to be stopped because of side effects.  I have psoriatic arthritis/psoriasis and many BP meds can cause it to flare.  Recently, I agreed to try a beta blocker (Toporol at the lowest dosage) even though they are one of the meds most likely to stir up psoriasis.  And it did.  It also had some other disturbing (mental/emotional) side effects.  My psoriasis is worse than its been for years.  We discontinued the beta blocker which led to a hypertensive crisis (222/127).  We overcame that and tapered off the beta blocker.  Now I have been off the beta blocker completely for about a month, but my regular BP (not in a white coat or stressful situation) is now running in the 150s-160s over 90s and 100s!  I'm very frustrated by this, and upset that by taking, and then discontinuing, the beta blocker it seems I've raised my baseline blood pressure significantly.  Will this pass?  Or is something else going on?

I have ultra stubborn high blood pressure.  im on toprol xl and diovan . long story short
iv tryed now 3 times to get off the meds normal way and weening slow.  both times my b.p. jumped up high.. sky rocketed to 167-115 both times.  forced me back on the beta blocker again.  as I feared heart attack or stroke !  now im finding and reading online
that ,after you get off any beta blocker med or toprol xl  your blood pressure will jump high on you.  its a effect you cant stop !  part of the so called No ! withdrawal symptoms
I am now seeing a Natural holestic Doctor, as im finished with Hmo Doctors ! and the way they push pills on us all.  most off how they guess at what is wrong !  and treat the symptoms and not the problem or cause !   I cant see how any good Doctor can
spend 5 to 10mins per visit , and figure what is wrong or can treat someone fully and safe.  they cant !   these are not Doctors , but modern day licenced drug dealers.
pushing pills on america..
