Does anyone else jump when they are falling asleep or relaxing?

Often while relaxing or getting ready to fall asleep I will suddenly jump for no reason.  It seems to be happening more lately?  Any ideas?

Jema59,

While I can't assert with total certainty that no one ever has a heart attack when dreams to be hitting the ground in the dream, I found unlikely that we hear this sort of things from trustworthy sources. Seems unlikely that this specific link would be frequent enough to be discovered, and strongly associated with heart attack. I don't think it's totally impossible thogh, I guess it could be triggered by extreme fear in someone which already have some heart disease, but I'm very skeptic about this sort of thing being as usual as being possible to say that it "can cause" heart attack. I guess that it can cause a heart attack in the same manner that dreaming to being robbed, being abducted by aliens or having any other nightmare eventually can (and I'm not aware of that being frequent either), without being an special case, where heart attacks would be more likely.

R.L.S.   I jump all the time , my legs always move around at night and jump when I fall asleep sometimes..  its funny as I wake up and then laugh and go back to sleep again
sometimes its due to dreams , and other times it just happens..
I have a few storys to tell, when I drove a big rig accross country - with friend switching drivers.. talk about legs jumping LoL..

yeah its pretty normal to have it happen .. nothing odd about it !!

were all bed kickers !

I don't actually jump, but I've some spasms in my legs, sometimes preceded by a somewhat shock-like sensation, perhaps there's a continuum. I think that this "kicking" thing I have is fairly normal, and it has a name, but I don't recall it right now. I'll look for it.

Yes I jump also, I do think its a stress thing also, but there is nil side effects.  I a stress kind of person, have a mother who is an expert on giving guilt trips, really making me responsible for her happiness, so I taken stress on board all my life, hence the current blood pressure problems.  Oh to know what I know now when I young!!!!

This happens to me sometimes. I thought they were called "night terrors".

However, this is stress plain and simple. Absolutely NOTHING to worry about :) !

I have done this too, I think it is farily common. I have heard that it is the a reflex reaction and that your muscles are actually letting go and trying to relax. I know I tend to jump more on days I have been stressed.

Hope this helps.
