Fast Heart Rate After Eating

I'm a relatively healthy 25yo male, however for sometime now I've noticed that my heartrate increases to 100-120bpm after eating lunch. Is that normal? My resting pulse is ~70-80bpm.

I only seem to notice it at lunchtime too, and I've tried changing what I eat and avoiding caffeine etc.

The only health problem I've had recently is a couple of primary spontaneous pneumothoraces over the last few years.

I've been having this problem too for a couple weeks. But I had like 4 cups of apple juice before and with my meal and the problem was almost nonexistent. So I'm thinking maybe it could have something to do with potassium, because I have had problems with that before. Let me know if it helps at all.

I'm also suffering with simalar problems to this. I'm a 30 yr old male who smokes about 10 cigarettes a week and drinks red wine. I have suffered with anxiety in the past. I have mild pains in my chest that come and go this also radiates towards my left arm. I do belch quite a lot, and feel indegestive pains. I suffer with palpitations all the time and some times itch all over. I'm sure its anxiety based as financial, work and family strains do take there toll. But my advice to anyone is do more excersize as it really helps me. However if there are any medical experts on here who feel that my symptoms may be more serious than I suspect please comment. In the mean time I'm going to man up a bit and try to enjoy my life.

I'm 26 years old and have a serious anxiety disorder. Its like every week I have a different symptom then the week before. In the past week it just started where after I eat my heart feels like its pouning out of my chest, and if I stand up its worst. I also seem to be belching a lot more and have gassie type pains. Does anyone else have this?? Do you think this could just be from my anxiety because I worry about EVERYTHING?? I have ekgs blood work chest xrays and when I was younger I had sonograms of my heart, they never find anything wrong and my blood pressure only gets high when having an anxiety attack. Its just very frustrating because when I go to the doctor and tell him these things I almost feel like he's laughing @ me like I'm stupid or imagining it. Does anyone have any advice?after I eat my heart rate goes between 90 and 110... I've had my heart rate go much faster when having a panic attack but this is seriously annoying and makes me not wanna eat @ all. ADVICE please!!!!

Jesus Christ!  I'm 38 and run 2 miles every day and have this heart problem or is it a head problem, dont know yet.  right after I eat, usually something like a sandwich or a subway wrap my heart will skip beats and also increase in beats, this goes on for about 20 minutes then it goes away.  I had an angiogram about a year ago and the doctor said my heart looks great, that eased my mind for about 6 months now its happening again.  I think its a combination of medibolic and anxiety, I'm going to go for more of a protien type diet and very low carbs and see if that helps, if not I'm going back to my cardiologist, and if that doesn't work I may have to check myself into a mental institution.

wow so many peeps with the same problem...ill tell you my story.
back in december i broke with my girl freind...jan and feb work started to get more stressfull ie i was forced to become the head chef where i worked as they made the head chef redundant. Under lack of staff and more responsablilty i started to get chest pains. i went straight to the dct and he said i had acid reflux, he gave me lapropsimal (proton pump inhibitor).I took a week off work went to italy to see my dad and i felt really good. I went back to the gym and everything. After  a few weeks back i got really stressed one night and wack i had fast heart beat and chest pain again. I went back to the doctor who put me back on the tablets but doubled the dose. This didnt work... i started to get fatigued and dizzy and all sorts untill i collapsed at work. The doctor put me on 2 weeks sick leave. At this time my heart rate was at 100+ all the time. The dct tested me for blood count ,liver, diabetes, thyroid, and cholestirol. All turned out ok!!!.he said it was all stress. I am only 30 years old and iv never ever experianced this before.
During my 2 weeks off i got so bad i went to a+e. i was getting slight pains in my left hand and noticed it was whiter than the other!. They gave me an ecg and pressure test.
ALL OK!!!!! what the hells going on here!
I got so bad my dads come over from italy.  and the dct has put me on citolapram anti depresant and a different tablet for my stomack. I slowly got better till the pains in the gut and chest went, and the anxceiaty from all this died down a bit. But i was waking up in the morning with massive aching joints and chest and shoulders. So iv stoped all tablets now a week has pasted... not pains any where! But i have a slight dizzy ness and numb feeling in my lips and face now and again. this lasts for a second or 2, and comes on every minute or so. Also after eating i get a heart rate of 100 or so for an hour or 2.
im eating ok and have put back on 4lb in weight as since the start of all this as i nearly lost 2 stone!
Iv got a feeling this is all to do with the brain its an amazing thing that controls every part of our body.
if any one has any idea why ,how or what iv passed through id like to no because my doctor seems to just pass it off when he thinks of my age!.

I have the same problem with eating and faster h.r.  I have found that eating smaller portions helps.  I know increased adrenaline can make your h.r. go up maybe there is some metabolic processing of food that causes this.  I don't know, but it's awfully coincidental that his happens to so many people.

HI, okay, I'm new here.
Got similar symptoms re: BP change after eating.
Also...for no reason at all. All tests 'normal'.
You guys oughta go read the Neuro forum, I've got similar
symptoms to some of THOSE posters, too.
Eeek!
I'm going to vote for some kind of systemic inflammation.
(I'm not a doc, but I was a really good systems analyst and, well, organic bodies are THE most intricate and complicated
systems around; and I'm good at interpolation)
I wonder if Heart / vascular folks ever talk to Neuros and vice-versa?
Many problems (there and here) seem to fall into both camps;
anyone (esp docs) know of a decent AI for diagnosis? eh?
BTW, exercise does seem to help.
And if you notice grumbly tummy rather consistently,
Prevacid works for Me.
And yes, this stuff IS scary and I thought I was the only one, too...but I'm NOT glad I'm not, this stuff is NO FUN!
Just don't let it drive you crazy, OK?

I also get a really fast heart rate after eating. Its a horrible feeling. Dr cant find anything wrong with me. He put me on 12.5 mg of Toprol. It helps a little.  But I still want to know why I get like this every time after I eat. Its almost like my heart is allergic to food!  I usually stay within 70-90 beats a minute, but 30 minutes after I eat it, it goes up to 110 to 125 a minute.  Im only 26 years old and weigh 110 pounds.  But my father has had a mild heart attack and my mother is on blood pressure medicine.
Has anyone figured out what causes a fast heart rate after eating??  PLEASE let me know, esp if you have any suggestions to help it stop. Thanks!

I have been reading all of the comments on this subject and am now both scared and relieved, scared to think there might be something wrong with my heart but relieved to have at least some idea what might be going on with me.

My problem started a few months ago but has been getting progressively worse. I seem to have shortness of breath or some kind of heart palpitations after eating, not sure which, and not with all meals. It's almost an anxiety-type feeling. It lasts 10-15 minutes or so and it's scary to me. I'm in otherwise good health. Guess I should get to the doctor.

Again, another WOW!!  I'm a registered nurse, and I thought that *I* was the only one going through this.  I seem to go in cycles, and I think for me this tends to happen when my weight is up--it *appears* to be weight related but I could be wrong.  Someone above said that leaning forward quickly tends to trigger episodes of tachycardia--I have to say that I suffer with PVC's and if I lean forward too fast it can trigger a round of PVC's for me as well (no tachy).  I have had "runs" of PVC's (bi and tri-geminy where the PVC's tend to come in clusters of 2 or 3).  Stress appears to play a large part in these episodes, but I find that I can go weeks without a single PVC and then for *some* reason they trigger and I have them for weeks at a time and it's miserable.

In the early fall of '04 I went to the ER because they (PVC's) were coming so close together.  They sent me home and attributed them to my working 7p - 7a and the stress of my job (oncology nurse).  They originally started in my early 30's then went away and I only had them sporadically (maybe 1 -2 every 6 mos or so that I was aware of).  WHen I started working nights they started again with a vengeance.  I have been off nights now for eight months but I still get them on a regular basis. Anyone find anything that helps you to cope when you have PVC's?  I try to ignore them and don't want to take anti-anxiety meds, but sometimes it's all I can do to keep my sanity.

The post-meal tachycardia along with my heart beating hard and some shortness of breath (I think more anxiety related) just started up again a few weeks ago.  Does anyone find this to be weight related?  Like someone said above, it makes you feel like you don't want to eat anything.

Thanks
Kris
