Gout, high blood pressure, right meds

by ger44, Apr 24, 2008 05:46PM
I have gout and high blood pressure. My gout, which is not triggered by high uric acid levels, is controlled by daily colchicine. For my blood pressure, which uncontrolled would be in the 200 over 100+ range, I take nifedipine 60mg daily, atenolol 25 mg daily, and clonidine .1 mg at midnight and .05 mg at noon. My typical B.P. is 158 over 78, pulse 48. Depending on manufacturer of the clonidine (as far  as I can tell) the midday .05 dose drops my B.P. to 140 over 78, and my pulse goes down to 42, making me quite sleepy.

Should I be taking a diuretic, and what about the clonidine? Thanks
