Heart palpatations for over 1/4 of the day

Hi There,
(im 31 yrs, 5'8 and 62kg and do regular exercise)
Ive had heat palpitations for at least 10 years. However in the last year or so they have got much much worse, they used to be an occasional blip, but now i have them daily and they go on for hours at least a quarter of the day with sporadic ones in between. I get both skipped beats and flutters. which interrupt my breathing (ie if im on an in breath i cant continue and have to breath out - like coughing i guess).

Now i know whenever my body is under any kind of stress i.e. if im ill or now when i start or finish exercising they get worse (when i start exercising my heart goes a bit mad). When i got very ill in china they told me i had an incomplete right bundle block which i know isnt anything serious, but they told me i should get checked out when i got home). i had a 24 hour montior later when i got back but it was during the time i got them infrequently when i was well so nothing showed up).

I had an operation a few years ago and the same thing happened, my heart felt very week and i felt like i would pass out - i went back into hospital and the specialist wanted to see me on a treadmill - but that nevr happened as i went to live in japan for a year.. and also when i was well the palps we infrequent so not worrying or bothersome.

but now, with them happening everyday and for very long periods i am more concerned. however, i cant get a GP to take me seriously - as i had depression for a spate - she just tells me its that, or that if it was something serious it would have shown by now.

However i know that i am not currently depressed nor anxious at all... the palps come when i least expect and when i am totally relaxed watchin tv or doing whatever. i have also noticed they are much worse when i sit back and i can reduce or stop them if i hunch over. but it is affecting my exercise, and i though they arent painful - which is a comfort - i do have in the back of my mind that there maybe something else wrong that has caused them to start going wild.

any ideas - should i push the issue with the gP
Thanks
Jo

can i say if you have had all heart test  stress/ecko/ekg blood work than am sure your heart id fine. i went throught this myself. i had them a lot last run i had was 6 months everyday had 3000 a day and felt everyone of them, 6 months no relief wore heart 30 day heart montor said they were not going kill me so i felt better . that was tha last run i had now i have them on and off but when it happens i try to block and keep doing what am doing. seems to work better. they are really scarey things and they can change on you to think its something new, when it does that to me i go get a 30 day event montor wear it and they tell me alls good so i go on. have you wore one. try it if they start back up it might help to ease your nerves. am going to cardio today for my bp getting higher than normal 168/88 its scarey me so going go have it checked out. take care talk soon.

It's just worth keeping in mind that if a stethascope could diagnose all electrical problems with the heart, we wouldn't need the ecg machine. It is always worth having it properly checked.
A bundle block is not serious if a cardiologist has diagnosed it as such. In most cases the signal manages to find its way through normal tissue to repolarize the ventricle.

Do this breathing exercise and the heart palpitations will reduce gradually and you will be able continue your normal exercise routine.Continue the anulom vilom daily to keep the heart healthy.
Build up your timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after one minute.
Anulom Vilom –
Close your right nostril with thumb and deep breath-in through left nostril
then – close left nostril with two fingers and breath-out through right nostril
then -keeping the left nostril closed  deep breath-in through right nostril
then - close your right nostril with thumb and breath-out through left nostril.
This is one cycle of anulom vilom.
Repeat this cycle for 15 to 30  minutes twice a day.
Children under 15 years – do 5 to 10 minutes twice a day.
You can do this before breakfast/lunch/dinner or before bedtime or in bed.Remember to take deep long breaths into the lungs. You can do this while sitting on floor or chair or lying in bed.

thankyou guys,

im changing GP's as im not really getting anywhere with her.
i do get chest pain too sometimes - very twingy just for a few secs and i dont like it. its left and crosses to my upper arm. i also have alot of neck pain on that side though the neck pain  has been there for a while (she tells me its cos im depressed and ive probably got a little fibromyalgia...which no offence - is utter rubbish)

anyway - here hoping to find a decent GP..
thanks!

A Cardiologist will tell you that if you have lots of palpitations you should have an ECG at least to dismiss any potential serious causes.

the echo am having today its like a utrasound it shows all your walls/values in the heart they can see if walls are bigger than they should be extra. for peace of mind your dr should get that test for you.  see if your dr will let you get a heart monitor for 30 days, than go do what you would reg do it records all that way they can see what your talking about.

thanks for reply!
i havent had the stress test - the specialist wanted me too but i had to go away for a year so it never happened. now i cant convince my gp to send me back!
i dont think ive had echo/ecko - what is that?
i had ecg - which showed the minor electrical fault.

however - i should add.. i have drastically reduced the amount of exercise ive done this year. last year i was on a fulltime dance  course (finished last july) so did around 6 hours a day... now i only exercise a few times a week.
im sure this is contributory of course, but should my heart feel this bad?! and it seems to be getting worse not better
