Heart trouble or not?

by synjyn51, Jul 04, 2009 11:44PM
For the past 4 months I have had trouble with laying flat and forced to sit up cause of chest tightening.  I also have been wheezing at times with the tightening.  First we (dr.& I) thought it was my COPD, but my lungs sound fine and I wheeze at the oddest times, like when I am doing nothing or just walking to the mailbox.  Yesterday I felt odd with shortness of breath while I sat up in bed.  What can this be?  The doctor said it might be heart trouble and not my COPD.  If true what should I do? The chest tightening is disconcerting.
Thanks

Did your doctor not refer you to a cardiologist?  From my own experience, I find heart and lung so closely related that I guess that's why they term the clinic cardio-pulmonary but you would think the two specialists know enough to recognize symptoms that cross into the other's territory.

After my botched angioplasty, I was given Metoprolol for my heart.  I started to sound nasal and had a runny nose all the time.  I also could not sleep lying down and couldn't cross the street without stopping to catch my breath.  I identified the root of the problem as the Metoprolol but my cardiologist just kept upping the dosage.  Now I have COPD but they want to blame it on my previous smoking.

I say that to say you should not only see a cardiologist but investigate what side effects your meds might come with.
