How to set the lowest rate for pacemaker?

by williamca, Jun 21, 2009 07:34PM
My Dad , 80 years old, has bradycardia, normal heart rate is around 57 bpm. Now he got a pacemaker which set 60 bpm as lowest heart rate. That means, I guess, when Dad heart rate is lower to 60, the pacemaker will start to pace heart. However, Dad' normal heart rate is 57 bpm. So, I am wondering if the doctor make a mistake or not. Anybody know that? I am appreciated for your help. Thank.

The fact that your father's normal heart rate is 57 is why he got the pacer, and it probably dropped lower than that at times.  60 to 70 bpm is where almost all pacers are set.  I'm betting your father is going to start having more energy soon.  I'm a senior, I have Brady-Tachy syndrome and I feel much more energized since the pacemaker insertion.  No mistake was made by the doctor.
