thanks

dr.
thank you for answering my question regarding my brother, but could you answer a few more. so, as far as everything i explained about my brother you agree that his prognosis is not good? the doctors did not tell him any of this only me. i guess they figured he would be the type that would just hit the local bar.
they did have all these specialist come in and look at him, said they were going to run all these test, but never did. i guess they saw enough from the cscan. my brother is planning on someday going back to work when he gets stronger, will he get stronger. also i am so interested in your opinion of his lost of his voice. it has been a month now. is this due to his weaken state or something else going on? also what most likely will happen to him, will he have a heart attach. also i have read in your other post that you mention coumadin, they decided not to give him that for some reason. not to blame the doctors but they were very hard to find info out of. i think alot had to do to his drinking and him really acting like he knew what he has done. anyway any info on his voice and other thoughts would be appreciated. thanks again, i guess i am just have a hard time understanding it all.

Dear dff,
I'm not sure I understand your question.  From the information you gave me I would agree that his prognosis is not good.  As far as his voice we really can't make diagnosis or treatment recommendation in this forum but only provide information.   I would recommend calling the doctor who took care of him at the hospital and ask him to explain things to you again so that you can understand everything that is happening.  And as I mentioned previously I would strongly suggest getting hospice involved at this point.  The hospital should be able to help you in making those connections.  Hope this helps answer your question.

Some people do get another shot at life after alcoholism, if they can abstain from alcohol.  I suggest an inpatient alcohol treatment program, followed by AA, if he wants to live bad enough.

It's evident, that if he drinks again, he will die.  This is his physical and perhaps emotional bottom.  In some cases alcoholics are willing to accept their disease at this point and make a change.

I have close friends that have died from the physical results of alcoholism and friends that have died sober.  No matter how much time he has, it's better to die sober.

My heart goes out to you with your brother. I can tell you have lots of questions and are not satisfied with the answers or lack of answers you are getting. I would agree with the doctor on the forum here that hospice is a good idea, and they are WONDERFUL at expaining every step along the way. My uncle just died and he was in hospice. At the funeral, his family expressed how good hospice was to them. And, there's always hope, maybe your brother can turn around. But it sounds like he's very sick with kidney, liver, and heart failure. If he's filled with fluid that could cause the voice problems.

In reference to the questions about your brother`s voice, the voice weakness or hoarseness could also be due to his heart being extremely enlarged, and causing compression of his laryngeal nerves.I`m no doctor, and I`m merely speculating.
