LEG AND FOOT SWELLING AFTER BYPASS

by sramsey, Jul 25, 2008 09:13AM
My husaband had bypass surgery 12 days ago.  Vein taken from his left leg with only 2 small incisions.  His entire leg and foot is bruised and still swollen - esp. his foot.  Dr. said this was normal and to keep it elevated.  How long does this last?  Last night his foot looked ready to explode!

It is normal and it took my wife's leg/foot many months to return to normal and almost 2 years later, if she drinks too much soda or has a lot of salt, it swells.  Tell him keep it up and then walking helps it believe it or not.  You want to build collaterals to the vein that was used from that leg.  Good luck to you both.
