Low Potassium

I have been taking a 10mg tablet of Klor Con for low potassium for a little over a week now. My level was 3.2 and normal is 3.5 to 5.0. When should I have my levels checked again and should I stop taking it since my level was not that low. The pills are huge and it hurts my stomach.

if you eat a good diet comprised mostly of a variety of quality plant foods you should get plenty of potassium, plus the benefit of many more nutrients.   take a close look at your diet.  and monitor you blood every months or so until corrected...

Hi there,

I am fine at this stage.  I don't take diuretics anymore and I still believe in a banana a day.  I would be very cautious to take extra Potassium supplements without knowing my levels.  I know that hyperkalemia can cause arrhythmias and can even make your heart stop!

See if your doctor will give you liquid potassium instead of the pills. I have tried the Klor-con and the powder mix ins and they all make me really sick, the only one I can tolerate barely is the liquid, it is not any more expensive than the others and I mix it in cran-grape juice or some other juice like that that will mask the flavor.

Good luck, I know it's a pain, I have been dealing with this for over two years.

Yip, I would also say diet that is not reach in potassium, diuretics and laxatives.

I take Lasix (20mg) and on those days I eat a Banana afterwards and have been able to normalize my Potassium level.

A good Potassium level is 3.5

I have to take Klor Con as I take Lasix, a diaretic because of Congestive Heart Failure, but have to take 20 mg.  They are huge pills, so I just cut them into quarters.  I also take them just after eating breakfast when I take Lasix, and the food buffers the stomach upset for me.  You didn't mention any reasons for the loss of Potassium, it is heart related?

i had the same potassium level 3.2, they gave me those same pills but never used them. i went all natrual because i heard it does cause upset stomach and i know me stomachs already weak. they did give me some orange drink in the doctors office and doctor said it was all i needed. i always eat foods rich in potassium. look online, most vegetables and drinks have potassium in it.. no need to double check if you eat one banana a day your levels stay normal, then you dont need *** much later.

My Wife was told her Potassium was low while having cancer treatment. They gave her pills and all they did was hurt her stomach and made her vomit. The body much prefers to get nutrition from natural food, it's designed to break them down from food stuff. I gave my wife a banana to eat every hour, and by three bananas her levels were normal. If Potassium is dangerously low, it's given directly into the blood because they know the body doesn't absorb it very well from pills. It might be wise to search foods containing potassium on the internet and check your diet. It sounds like you are missing some things.
