Positive cardiac enzymes

I am 38 year old female.
I went to the emergency room because I had chest pain that radiated to my neck into my jaw

They did tests and gave me some medicines. They gave me nitroglycerin and after a few seconds of taking it I felt this really weird feeling in my chest. Almost as if I was struck with a hammer directly on my heart and then gone. The pain was better but not completely.
Anyway I didn't see a doctor it was a nurse practitioner. And she had a nurse take blood to do what they call a ten minute cardiac enzyme test when the nurse practitioner checked the results from the machine ( I was sitting right I front of the machine basically)  she said to the nurse, that can't be hers it's positive. She then ordered the nurse to do the test again. So she took another tube of blood and when the results were in the same thing the enzymes were positive and the nurse practitioner came over to me and told me  the machine must be broken your enzymes were positive and that she was just going to discharge me and give me something for heartburn.

Should I be concerned? I am still having chest discomfort.  I live in a very small town and that's the only hospital around.

One wonders why they even did the test, if they weren't going to believe the results.  Yes, you need to see a competent doctor right away.

Hi there,

I agree that the small towns are not very well equipped with the latest in technologies.

What you have experienced can be signs of a Hiatus Hernia.  I have been in ICU's a lot in my life and at some stage noticed a pattern between heart related pains and Gastro Ent pains - i.e. Hiatus Hernia or severe reflux.

You should get a referral to see a Gastro Ent in a City closest to you.  I don't think you had a heart attack or having Angina's.

Please let us know how you are going.

I think you should be concerned.  Not too be too personal or anything, but these people are idiots.

The manifestations of heart attack are different with men and women.  These days, most medical centers know that.

Get to a cardiac center outside your little town, and do it soon.  Your life depends on it,
