Recurrent chest pain

by kth17, Aug 17, 2009 09:03AM
Hi,

I am a 21 year old female. I am fairly active and have just started running again. I have been experiencing some very dull chest pain for the last few weeks. I have had this chest pain before and took myself to ER to see what was causing it. The doc in the ER did an ECG and nothing showed up. I am now experiencing this pain again. It happens sporadically, sometimes it's in the center of my chest and sometimes it is more to left or to the right side. I have no other symptoms. Should I be worried? I don't feel as though I need to go to the ER but I don't want to miss something serious.

hmmm, I keep wondering why doctors rely so much on ecg readouts. I have a totally blocked LAD, a severely diseased RCA and yet my ECG always shows as perfectly normal. Nuclear scans always show my heart as very fit. The only thing which shows
the real problems is an angiogram. If I go into hospital, a new ecg is always taken but
is then matched against older ones to see if there are any changes. I also had an
exercise tolerance test before my bypass which showed no problems even though I
was suffering from bad angina and chest pains at the time. The expert just saying "Im monitoring your heart, keep going". I was very uncomfortable and yet they seemed to
want to ignore that fact. So in a nutshell, usual tests don't always show the evident
problems.
