Ross Procedure Results

I am a very healthy male, 6'2" 210lb male. In 1999, I had the Ross Procedure for Aortic Valave Insufficiency and all went very well. Today I have an aneuysm at the Aortic root size 5 cm. My Cardiologist wants to wait until the 5.5 cm diameter to take action. My question: has this been seen in very many other Ross Procedure patients? Does the procedure change the 5.5 cm decision point as the surgeon had to reduce the Pulmonary valve root down to 3.7 cm when I had the Ross done.

The answer is yes, this has been seen in many Ross patients. This was told to me by my world class surgeon. The pressure the aortic valve is used to maintaining cannot usually be handled by the more plient, pulmonary valve. So many Ross patients (aortic valve replaced by pulmonary valve and donor valve given to replace the pulmonary valve) end up with aneurysms, like you and me. By the way, the Ross, automatically makes you a double valve patient.  They are frowning on the Ross now. Mine was done in 1997 and the aneurysm discovered in 2007.     Mine was 7.5cms when discovered, almost too late for me at that point, but aneurysm repair surgery was done and valve put in (St. Jude) and here I am.
