SVT and PVC

i had a series of PVC's over a few monts. There was and is lots of stress.. As the PVC's subsided, I now have SVT's.
I wore a hater, it showed a short period of tachycardia. and a few PVC's. I am on 12.5 toprol every other day.
Lately, i have had a nightmares, stand up quickly out of bed, and my heart rate gets to about 120 BPM. It stays there four about 4 minutes and slows to the normal 60. I am in a panic mode about all this and especially working out. I am in great shape for 63 a ride an indoor bike 5-6 times per week. I used to ride at about 125-35 BPM for about 45 minutes. Now,I am terrified when I ride now and my heart rate seems to elevate more quickly since my anxiety about the PVC's and SVT's. So now I am terrified to ride fast. When I get ot 135 beats per minute, i back off out of fear of having a heart attact. My doctors basically say live with it, don't track your pulse and ride. In short, they do not seem concerned. Since it is my heart, should I be concerned and to what degree can adrenaline dumping effect my heart rate??? thanks

sorry u are having all the issues. assuming you are basically OK, your meds should break the cycle you are in. I have been awakening without tach the last few days. I have been doing breathing excercises, meditation, etc. and it truly helps. Try not to be hypervigilant about your health. good docs, a few good meds, time, meditation, an occassional xanax to break the cylce and you will get better. Anxiety disorder can can some or all the symtoms. Get a good book on anxiety disoreders. It will make you feel better and some stymtoms will sudside. Why did u ask I awaoke with tach from dreaming???

BE well.

I had ablation surgery in July for SVT. I am now having PVC when I engage in high level sports (Running, Mountain Biking, etc.) I had it occur toward the end of my stress test. I don't know if this is normal post operation, or if I have something new to fix. Any input is appreciated. Mark

Hey, I was just wondering how you are doing?  Are things getting better, or are you still having a hard time.  I am day 6 of Inderal, and the first day I am not 100% dizzy, YAY!! It's messing with my hr tho, and I'm constantly checking it, yesterday it got way too low, and had symptoms, and then back up again, so hoping it will hurry up and even out soon.
I just wanted to tell you that I did have a nightmare the last two nights, yuck, that was horrible, and I did wake with a racing heart, tho I didn't check to see how fast.  I finally had to take a Xanax to calm me down and I fell back asleep.  One thing with this Inderal is it makes me tired, but very insomnic at the same time, if that makes sense.
I was wondering how often you get your SVT attacks? I just wondered because you said your Dr. told you to live with it, and mine seems a little more concerned.
Hope your well, Michelle

I am on the Inderal 20mg 3xday, because it is a beta blocker that also stops the adrenaline/epinephrine action, and is also for anxiety and panicky people.  I am also on Xanax to try to relax, and am supposed to do the meditation and breathing exercises as well.  Maybe eventually counseling so I can convince myself I'm not dying. :)
This is all new to me, I just started this medication Monday myself.  It is making me feel horrible, like a zombie, I'm tired, zoned out, and sick to my stomach, my tummy hurts bad from taking it.  They told me to give it at least two weeks  for the side effects to go away.
I do get weird dreams, borderline nightmares, and yes I do wake up with a fast pulse rate, but now it is only about 100, instead of the 130, so it is starting to work. We may have to play with the dosages, and possibly switch to another drug if this doesn't work out, but I do have to give it a few weeks they said to work.
So, I am being treated for anxiety disorder and the SVT.  I will also be doing some other testing to rule out any causes for the SVT, like thyroid, hormones, adrenal glands, etc.
My Dr.'s don't act concerned, but it has made me a raving lunatic, I'm obsessed over my heart now and am trying to not check it, because I think the anxiety can make your heart race more, which is a catch 22 for me.  But, I'm working on it.  Everyone tells me to now worry, because if all else fails, we can go in and get an ep study and ablate the area.  Well, I'm not mentally or financially ready for something that invasive, but I've seen several people here on the board that have been living with it for quite awhile, so I shouldn't think so negative.  How are you doing?  Michelle

If you know your tachycardia is adrenaline induced, do you try meditation, breathing excercises, etc. to stop the adrenaline dumping??? What meds do you take for this?

you do not get nightmares and wake up with tach do u?

but, you do get tach while excercising as u pump adrenaline. Are the dr.'s concerned. Do they treat you for an axiety disorder. Can't that cause the adrenaline pumping??

thanks for your comments. I appreciate it.

Hello,
You sound exactly like me, this is what I had happen too.  I'm 35, had pac's and pvc's for 6 years.  But sometime in the last year I also developed svt.  It was shown on a 24hr holter as 2 short episodes.  I take Inderal 20mg 3 times a day.  I also have a very fast heart rate when I wake up at 120-130 for the first 5 minutes, but it then goes to about 80, not 60.  I know that your medicine as well as all beta blockers have a side effect of inducing nightmares, hopefully it will go away for you.  I also wonder if your on enough Tropol, every other day?  And your dose is very low.  Do you know what brings your svt on?  Mine is adrenaline induced, so when I exercise it does it, so I too am fearful of my hr going over 135, and I too back off.  The fear of this whole thing is consuming my life, it seems my hr is always high now (or was till I started this drug) because of my constant awareness.  I am obsessed, and I'm trying to not let it consume me.  As for exercising, my Dr. told me to cut back, don't work out as hard as I used to, since mine is induced by the adrenaline.  Maybe you should think about that too.  Work out, but not as hard.  Take Care, Michelle
