I believe that is the correct response, the cpr has to be done carefully. The way to look at it, is if you do nothing, then the patient dies, so you have to try.
I read a case where a nurse performed cpr on a patient who had previously had bypass surgery and she was afraid the sternum might break. A wire broke and pierced through the chest and into her hand. Luckily a blood test was negative for HIV, Hep B&C
I have heard mixed things o the topic and in my case I have an ICD so as not to risk a broken rib piercing my heart as initially I was told NO COMPRESSIONS but I have read that light compressions (such as you would do for a child/infant) aided by a flat object such as a bed pan work as well
