Too much medication?????

by Mike, Nov 12, 1999 12:00AM
I am taking both Ziac and Tiazac to help control blood pressure.  I am a 51 year old male with blood pressure problems for the last 20 years.  Health is good except for brief hospitalization 2 years ago for Left Ventricle Hypertrophy.

My question is the effects of these two medicines together.  I ocassionaly have periods where my breathing is a little difficult. I have some trouble getting a good deep breath.  This seems to happen 1-2 times a week and last for a few hours or so.  Could these medicines slow down my heart so much that it ocassionaly gets behind and causes the breathing problems?  I exercise regularly and have trouble getting my heart rate over 118 when on treadmill.  I also play basketball, lift weights, etc.

Thanks for your comments.

Dear Mike,

This may be due to your medication but i would review these symptoms with your physician.  they may represent a change in the function of your heart due to the LVH.

I take the same medication and have been told that I could exercise as I want to but don't try and get my heart in the target range because the medication will not allow you to achieve those levels.
