Would a Trial of Nitroglycerin Be Helpful?

Dear Doctor,
I've posted before and you advised that I see a cardiologist.  I am in an HMO and cannot see a specialist without a referral.  I have new onset chest pain, that has all the earmarks of Angina.
My PCP ordered an ECHO Stress that was normal except for some ST and T wave changes.  When I saw him, I asked about these changes and if they might mean that my chest pain is heart related.  He really did not respond to my question, and addressed other health problems I am having.  That leaves me in a quandary.  What I thought would be helpful, not very costly, and possibly indicate my need for a referral to a specialist; is a trial prescription of Nitro?  Reading on this and other WEB sites indicates this is a good step to determine if the chest pain is Angina.  I am asking your advice prior to calling my doctor, and I will not call if you think that it is not advisable.  Thanks!
Sincerely,
Ginny

I do not think response to nitro will help in your situation, as other causes of chest pain can respond to nitro. A completely normal stress echo decreases your risk of having heart disease. The ST and T wave changes have liitle significance if the echo was normal.

Thank you!  You have really reassured me and I will not be as concerned by this chest pain, unless it changes substantially.
Sincerely,
Ginny

Yes, if there is a worsening of symptoms or development of new symptoms, let your doctor know.
