high ldl,low hdl but normal totao cholestrol and triglycerides

Dear Sir/madam,
i am 38, male, height 169 cm and weight 70 kg living in the middle east.I have ocasional compaliants of chest discomfort as  spastic pain but neither so severe in quality nor extended time , as i am working in a hospital i was advised to do ecg repeatedly all of which found normal,i am a person of having chronic stress and extremely tensed for even simple matters ( iam not on any treatment) and occasional /rare exerciser.

Recently i checked my lipid profile which shows normal cholestrol and triglycerides but very low HDL( 0.58meq/L) and high LDL (3.7 meq/l),now i am even more tensed out of this result, should i take any treatment of cholestrol lowering agents or just dieting and exercises(the latter was advised by my doctor for time being), since two week  i am suffering from giddiness with some neck pain for which i was advised to do an MRI, please advise me about the management of my abnormal cholestrol ratio , .....thanks in advance...ma khan

An HDL of 0.58 would convert to 23.2 and an LDL of 3.7 would convert to 148.
European figures should be multiplied by 40.

Thank you doctor for your suggestions,i have gone throgh the web site you suggested and it indeed gave detailed insight. As i have no other risk factors like smoking, diabetes, HT or family history,i understood that life style changes are mostly ndicated at this stage.
Thank you Chris for your suggestion of conversion technique of cholestrol readings from SI system to traditional system.

ppmali,

Im sorry but I dont have the conversion available to convert your cholesterol profile to units that Im familiar with, so I will assume that your HDL is very low and your LDL is very high.

Specifc recommendations for cholesterol management are readily available and can be found on the web.  Depeneding what your numbers are and the presence of any other risk factors such as smoking or family history, either medications or lifestyle changes would be the first line of treatment. I usually have a very low threshold for instituting statin therapy and this may be an indication for you.

The website for recommendations can be found at:

hope this is a start.
